As someone who does content creation as a Full time gig job descriptions like the one below are appalling. The title of this Job is “Content Creator”. But if you read the description you’ll find that not only are you asking someone to drive your entire social media content creation in the confined space of your retail store you’re ALSO asking them to be a retail store manager, social media manager, videographer, and editor??? At this point those roles are expected on SMM job descriptions. But to then tell this person they’re also a floor retail sales manager from 9-5 M-S is outrageous. And the best part? 45-50k a year based on experience…. Essentially a Content Creator, a Multi Platform Social media manager and a retail store manager/sales associate for the same average salary of a entry level graphic design position. Companies have to stop thinking social media managers and content creators are easy jobs that you can do In your spare time and breaks. We gotta do better.

Someone finally said it! Hiring someone to do more than one job is like to asking them to be a jack of all trades. Although being versatile is unquestionably a positive quality, there is a chance that the individual will become a master of none. The caliber of work in every department could deteriorate in the absence of the targeted expertise that results from specializing in a particular job. One person might easily become burned out when they are asked to do the duties of two, three, or even more roles. Although they may initially be enthusiastic and driven to succeed, the strain of managing several responsibilities and priorities may gradually wear them down. Furthermore, it's a fact that unhappy and unproductive workers are a liability to the organization as a whole. Although it may seem like a dream come true, achieving the ideal balance between productivity and sanity is crucial. Ultimately, contented workers are productive workers and, who knows?, may also be less stressed! Cheers!

I really hope that business owners that see this actually take it into consideration. All of these jobs take different skillsets. A graphic designer is visually inclined. A copywriter is bigger on words and how they can persuade and evoke emotion. Some social media managers can do all of them but the expectation that they will be as skilled at each individual job is unrealistic and tbh completely unfair. I made it a habit to ask my team before hiring and even as we grow what areas they feel most confident and skilled in and look to outsource whatever is missing so everyone is using their superpower. It matters. Ok…. Done ranting.
