Robotics is going to shake things up in the coming years 🤖 We don't currently see much about robotics in the headlines. Two reasons for this: ⚗ The R&D process is *extremely* difficult and time consuming 🛒 It’s challenging to actually commercialize these systems (due to battery requirements, unstructured environments, safety standards, etc.) With that said, we’ve still gotten some pretty amazing applications in recent years (self-driving cars first come to mind). We’re also now seeing lots of action to build out general purpose robots — which would be transformational. Namely, 3 companies that I’m watching closely: 1. Boston Dynamics: They generate the most buzz in this space. If you’ve seen videos of a robot dancing or doing backflips — that’s them. They recently started bringing their products to market, and it’ll be interesting to track the adoption. 2. Robco: A German startup that focuses on use cases in Industrial Manufacturing. This caught my eye as Sequoia Capital led their $13.8 million Series A. What’s cool to see is that they’ve already had success penetrating the market. (Cc Luciana Lixandru) 3. Figure: Building the world's first general purpose humanoid robot. They're aiming to apply these to industries with labor shortages and/or dangerous work. Following Brett Adcock is a great lens into the journey. -- We’re still far from seeing robots integrate with humans on the daily, but it's one to keep a tab on! #artificialintelligence #machinelearning #technology

Agility Robotics, the Amazon-backed humanoid robot builder, got a new CEO today: Peggy Johnson, the ex Microsoft biz dev chief who led Magic Leap. The startup has also recently brought on execs who've mass produced robots, iPads, cars, and electronics. The plan is to make this Oregon State University spinoff, which was built on more than a decade of research into how mechanical legs work, an outfit capable of making thousands of robots a year. Their first target is the logistics industry. I spent some time digging into Agility, which will start mass producing bots later this year, a big step toward a future in which robot helpers graduate from tech demos to a common sight in the workplace: https://lnkd.in/g4UH2f9d
