🔴 Happiness can be learned - Offline and now Online at #AHK Malaysia   In October, we held the holistic resilience workshop "Happy for No Reason" with the Malaysian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry | AHK Malaysia team. In an entertaining way, the team members were inspired to explore themselves better and to further discover their potential. Happiness can be learned. It always takes 3 steps: 1. a realization 2. a deep personal decision 3. remembering and sticking with it for a few weeks Now the time had come and we underwent the practice check online. We discussed what concrete #improvements had been made in the lives of individual colleagues after three months. I was absolutely impressed! Many of them took their promises to themselves very seriously and integrated them into their lives step by step. This resulted in reports such as:   📌 I get annoyed much less 📌 I can keep my focus better 📌 I am no longer stuck in worry loops 📌 I have reduced my weight 📌 I give significantly more appreciation 📌 I sleep better 📌 My relationship has improved 📌 I am happier 📌 I laugh more often   When I hear that, I know why I love what I do so much. Spending time with your team at the office is as crucial as out of the office. It is one of the biggest realizations I had when I visited Malaysia with my employees last year. In the group, most people were junior employees who worked with me in a team. They are formal and restrictive to me at office because I am their manager. They used to keep a lot of things in them. As I was a senior, they even remained scared during the feedback sessions. But as we went for travel, they opened up, mindset changes happened and honest conversations occurred. They shared all their suppressed stuff, and I learned each of their true characters. We enjoyed the trip so much due to the peaceful environment, joyful local people, and beauty of nature. Irrespective of age, position, or choices, we embraced each other’s company throughout the Malaysia tour. The bonding is the best part of the tour which we built in only 5 days. Sometimes really big things happen. Like this. Like moving into your first ever offices as an entrepreneur. Like seeing Empathy Everywhere form as an official business. This is as big as it feels, right? There is no big corporate behind us calling the shots, no Financial Director negotiating a 3-year term and no investors to tell me they will cover the rent if something goes wrong. No. Just me and my team of under 30's growing up in the world. If you had asked me 5 years ago if my passion for Listening Leadership and empathy would ever, EVER, lead to me having an entire platform that trains teams and works with HR around the world, I would have politely told you that I was an advertising Creative Director in corporate ad-land, and that you were mistaken. But here we are. Proving that consistency and the ability to continuously hold your nerve (deep breaths, often!), really does lead to change. We open next week in central Kuala Lumpur - right behind the iconic Petronas Towers - and I am in a strange state of excitement balanced with anxiety. Its a big deal to open an office, to pay the rent, to formalise our existence out there in the world. Its a big deal to be responsible for salaries and lives. But then without these things, life would be less of an adventure.
