Today we've published 'Our Food 2022: An annual review of food standards across the UK. It is the second in a series of annual reports with Food Standards Scotland on how the food standards landscape is changing over time. Our report highlights that food standards in the UK remain stable, despite the pressures of inflation, labour shortages and the war in Ukraine. However, we need greater partnership working across the food sector, from industry to Government, to keep our food standards high. This includes: ▶️ Addressing the decline in local authority Trading Standards officers, Environmental Health and Food Law officers to ensure food standards are maintained ▶️ Tackling the shortage of Official Veterinarians to protect animal health and welfare and trade and assure food hygiene is maintained ▶️ Bolstering intelligence sharing networks across the food industry to help stop criminal gangs and tackle food crime that costs the UK up to £2 billion per year ▶️ Introducing import controls on food imported from the EU to help reduce the risk of unsafe food entering the UK from the EU Through this we can, together, make sure we all have confidence that the food we buy and enjoy is safe, and is what it says it is. Since the mid-2000s, the agro-food sector has contributed 10% to the #Dominican Republic’s GDP and food processing is the largest and fastest-growing manufacturing sector in the country. 🥭🫑❌ However, fruit and vegetable exports to Europe are frequently banned due to exceeding Maximum Residue Limits and other issues like traceability, value chain weaknesses, and lack of knowledge about EU sanitary and phytosanitary requirements. Small food-processing firms also face challenges accessing international markets due to uncertified safety management systems. To address these challenges, DT Global is providing Technical Assistance for the Implementation of Food Safety Management Systems for 10 companies in the Dominican Republic. Funded by the European Commission the project aims to help these companies achieve better access to the EU and CARIFORUM markets (the latter being comprised of the 15 Caribbean Community states, along with the Dominican Republic). 🇪🇺🤝🇩🇴 🔍 The project objectives include analyzing deficiencies and creating an implementation plan for each company and conducting specialized training to ensure compliance with required standards. #TechnicalAssistance #HealthSecurity #EUMarket #IWork4DTGlobal #WeAreDTGlobal

🌟 Important Update for Food Importers! 🌟 Since January 1st, 2024, importers of prepacked foods from Europe into Great Britain (GB) must include a GB-based Food Business Operator (FBO) and address on their packaging. This ensures legal compliance and consumer transparency. 🛑 Northern Ireland Protocol Continuity Foods for Northern Ireland (NI) follow EU labelling rules, while GB labels require both GB and EU/NI addresses. 📬 Physical Addresses Matter - Including a physical address empowers consumers to communicate directly with manufacturers. 🥩 Changes in Animal Product Labelling UK/EC identification marks for animal products are no longer valid in GB. New identification marks are introduced based on product destination. 🏷️ Clear Labelling for Beef, Veal, and Minced Meat Products must now be labelled as 'UK' or 'non-UK', replacing previous 'EU' or 'non-EU' labels.
