Deforestation is a critical risk for the future of coffee. At JDE Peet’s we are engaging with the coffee origin countries not only to comply with EUDR but most importantly to stop any further coffee related deforestation so that to contribute to ensure a future for coffee in an inclusive way that protects smallholder farmers and the industry.

We are excited that the Dutch Association of Investors for Sustainable Development (De Vereniging van Beleggers voor Duurzame Ontwikkeling (VBDO)) recognises our efforts in combating deforestation and preserving biodiversity as a good practice in its recent report on biodiversity and business! 🏆 At JDE Peet's, we are, from bean to cup, committed to making a positive impact on the planet and the communities we serve. Recognising nature’s vital role in coffee production, we intensively collaborate with partners and stakeholders to implement regenerative agriculture and responsible land-use practices. These initiatives not only improve soil quality and water management but also contribute to fighting climate change and uplifting the livelihoods of farmers, their families, and communities. But our commitment doesn't stop there! Engaged in restoration and reforestation projects in countries such as Honduras, Peru, and Indonesia, we address deforestation’s root causes, including poverty. In our unwavering pursuit to combat deforestation, we have set ambitious goals to establish a deforestation-free supply chain and to support coffee-producing nations in achieving deforestation-free sectors. Our inclusive strategy to combat deforestation involves utilising high-definition satellite imagery to map forests and coffee-growing areas accurately, assessing deforestation risks linked to coffee production, and implementing proactive measures to prevent or mitigate deforestation. We are proud that our efforts are recognised and hope sharing our approach can inspire other companies to act as well. Sustainable palm oil production is possible and is actively contributing to environmental preservation and ethical practices. We define sustainable palm oil as that which is Certified Organic, RSPO Identity Preserved, Non GMO and Fair Trade. This palm does not involve deforestation and supports biodiversity, fair labor practices, and the livelihoods of small farmers.
