Can you believe we’re in Q2 of the calendar year and Q4 of the financial year! Thought I might give you an insight into some of what the last quarter saw for The Marketing GP. ☑️ We mentored Chelsea, a work experience student and events intern Olivia, as part of our wider internship program. ☑️ Our NPS survey was sent out and we had an increase in responses for this round, as well as some amazing feedback (with not one detractor in sight!) We also got some really great constructive feedback, which have put into our operational planning update. ☑️ We had a number of our team take some well-deserved breaks and go to some amazing places, both here in Australia and overseas – stay tuned for photos I am sure! ☑️ Our regular WIP meetings occurred each Monday, to ensure we are delivering for our marketing implementation retainer clients – both day-to-day, but also in line with the bigger picture of their strategy ☑️ The Easter Bunny delivered not only some chocolate, but also a session from our corporate masseuse. ☑️ We updated ten very detailed templates in our project management system, inline with our approach to continuous improvement for our processes. The upshot is we work smarter, not harder and continue to up the ante on our efficiency for our clients ☑️ Various team members attended 16 networking and business events to hear from amazing speakers and catch up with clients and stakeholders. A large number of those were related to International Women’s Day – which is now almost a month! ☑️ We had a team meeting and training day, which was an opportunity to learn from each other, talk about the year ahead and ensure we’re all on the same page ☑️ 1,23,456,789 photos and videos were taken (well that’s what our phone storage seems to think!) And to be honest, this is just the tip of the iceberg 🧊🧊🧊 When people ask me what our team is like, the key thing I seem to always say is how hard everyone works. We have a great culture (which is what you often see on our socials), but by golly does this team produce some amazing outputs. 🎯 Can’t wait to see what this quarter delivers 🎯

~Closing a Memorable Chapter~ Last month marked the end of an incredible chapter in my life – my internship at Vancouver Island University in the International Department. As I reflect on this journey, I am filled with immense gratitude. When I started, I was stepping into the unfamiliar territory of marketing. All I had was my experience, an MBA, and a willingness to dive into the unknown. VIU took a chance on me, believing in my potential when I was just beginning. This trust inspired me to work even harder. Getting an opportunity is one thing, but making the most of it is another. I knew that someone trusted me during the interviews enough to give me this chance, and I owed it to them and myself to give my best effort, no matter what. These past four months were an incredible journey. I faced challenges, learned new skills, and pushed myself beyond my limits. Each hurdle taught me something valuable, and each success fueled my passion even more. VIU gave me the chance to show what I could do, and I threw myself into every task with all my heart. I’ve learned so much from my amazing mentors and colleagues. They have been patient, supportive, and always ready to guide me. Looking back, I am amazed at how much I’ve grown. The Cincinnati CIO Roundtable in partnership with INTERalliance hosted our annual intern summit at NKU earlier this week, and once I again I got to spend lunch talking with groups of really impressive interns from organizations throughout the greater Cincinnati area. As always, I was blown away by the energy, engagement, and thoughtful questions that the attendees asked. Here are three takeaways: 1. A lot of young folks need to see us being human. Every year, I talk about being an introvert, challenging myself to get out of my shell, and about techniques I used to intentionally handle social situations better. Every year interns light up when they hear that and ask question after question based on their own experiences. If you get the chance, talk about how you've grown, how it felt, and where you struggled. 2. A lot of our careers look like a fixed path from outside. Attendees were often relieved to hear about lateral paths and how broad experiences tended to help the senior IT folks in the room progress in our careers. 3. We need to create more opportunities for teenagers and early career folks to gain access to people at every level of our organizations for conversations like these! As the summer internship season kicks off, and we are welcoming our new interns at Michelman & Robinson, LLP, I'm reminded of my own transformative experience as an intern in Germany at the Frankfurt offices of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer over 20 years ago. It was my first international business experience, and little did I know then how much it would shape my personal and professional growth. To all the students embarking on internships this summer, whether close to home or far afield, I'd like to share some reflections from my journey: Embrace curiosity: Your internship is a unique opportunity to learn. Ask questions, seek out new perspectives, and absorb as much knowledge as you can. Curiosity is the fuel that propels growth and innovation. Dare to think big: Bring your best self to work each day and don't hesitate to contribute your ideas. Your fresh insights as an intern can spark meaningful change. Dream beyond the immediate tasks and envision the impact you can make. Connect with others: Your internship cohort and colleagues could become the cornerstone of your professional network. Build relationships, collaborate, and support one another. The bonds forged during this time can last a lifetime. Embrace the challenges: Growth often lies outside your comfort zone. Whether it is navigating a new environment, tackling an unfamiliar project, or communicating across differences, each challenge is a chance to develop new skills and resilience. Looking back, my internship in Germany was a pivotal stepping stone in my career journey. To all the interns of today, I wish you a summer filled with learning, growth, and exciting new horizons. Embrace this opportunity—it could be the start of something extraordinary.

After his talk, someone asked him, "What is the hardest part of being a good CEO?" He said, "Some jobs require you to think at a 60,000-foot level. You think about strategy, competition, and all the big picture stuff. Some other jobs need you to think at the 6-foot level -- you get into an incredible level of detail. "A CEO has to be able to operate at the 60,000-foot level, at the 6-foot level, and at every level in between. And you have to be able to make these transitions nearly instantly -- sometimes from one meeting to another. "This ability to effortlessly move up and down the ladder of abstraction is one of the hardest things about a CEO's job." As the CEO, one moment, you might be figuring out why the assembly line is breaking down. The next moment, you might be looking at entering a new market. Nothing is off the table. The higher your ambition, the wider the range of issues you should be willing to grapple with. Some people have depth. Some have breadth. Earlier this week I had the pleasure of welcoming the 2024 Interns to J.P.Morgan Glasgow. I understand that the first few days can be nerve wracking. So here are some of my tips to help you settle in. 1. Be curious: Ask questions and seek to learn. 2. Connect: Build relationships with your team. 3. Stay organised: Keep track of your tasks and deadlines. 4. Be patient: Give yourself time to adapt and grow. 5. Take notes: Document key information and insights. 6. Seek feedback: Regularly ask for and act on feedback. 7. Stay positive: Maintain a positive attitude and embrace challenges. 8. Be yourself: Authenticity goes a long way in building confidence. 9. Be proud: You’ve secured an internship at a global organisation. You deserve to be here. Celebrate your achievements - regardless of how small you think they might be. 10. Engage fully: Participate actively in meetings and discussions. Looking forward to seeing all you achieve!
