https://lnkd.in/gtHBn2cU Some land in the Sahtu region is now zoned special management that was once zoned for a proposed conservation initiative. Development in this area will be subject to the same conditions as general use zones and CR #20 – South Nahanni Watershed All applications for land use proposed in SMZ Zone 41 – South Nahanni Watershed must demonstrate: a) How impacts to mountain woodland caribou, grizzly bears, Dall’s sheep, moose, and mountain goats, their habitat and migration patterns, and important community harvesting areas will be avoided or mitigated; b) How audio or visual impacts on users of the Little Nahanni River will be avoided or mitigated; and, c) That the activity does not substantially alter quality, quantity, or rate of flow for waters within the South Nahanni Watershed.

I got to attend the webinar on "Land Use Change in Rural Areas" and gained a lot of useful knowledge about this crucial subject. My great thanks goes out to the distinguished instructors, notably Dr. Kaveh Asadpour, for their thorough and useful lectures. The topic of land use change in rural regions is multifaceted, encompassing economic, social, and environmental aspects. now, I have a better knowledge of this issue and the difficulties it encounters thanks to this webinar. I also learned essential information about the rules and legislation pertaining to changes in land use and the legal frameworks controlling this occurrence. I heartily urge anyone interested in this subject or involved in rural development to attend one of these webinars. #Land_use_change #Rural_areas #Rural_development

One of the oldest laws in the province that governs use and access of public land, the Land Act, has been the attention of recent concern due to the obscurity of proposed changes. ORCBC met with Nathan Cullen, the minister of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship to better understand the proposed Land Act amendments. Read our newest piece, Facts about the Land Act, to gain clarity and understand what the changes are and what they aren't. https://lnkd.in/ggPt54zi

According to laws, regulations, and policies in place across Canada, all areas harvested on public land must be reforested, either by replanting or through natural regeneration, so virtually all harvested lands will continue to be regenerated. https://lnkd.in/g3QirEvC Two Sides North America #canadianforests #paperfacts #forestmanagement

Degraded land? Add values by connecting stakeholders with societal ambitions #Healthysoils are essential for welfare and wellbeing. Unfortunately large areas of land and soils are #degraded. Some degradation cannot be restored. Other forms of land degradation only partly, but sometimes land recovery is feasible. #Restoration seldom comes naturally or takes a long time. The key to land and soil restoration is in the potential #values of land and soil. These potential values are linked to the #soilecosystemservices soils can provide, the #naturalcapital. But also to #societal challenges and interests as well as to economic values incorporated in land: the social and financial capital. How to bring these potential values to the surface? Who is going to take the lead? And how to organize this process? This was the scope of the introduction I gave at the #CommonForum on Contaminated land last week in #Brussels. A network of policy makers exchanging their knowledge and experiences. In this introduction I showed how awareness of the values of land and soil can lead to soil restoration and value creation for society as a whole. What steps should be taken. Also I showed how the EU Soil Strategy can facilitate this process. The presentation will become available at the Common Forum website soon: https://lnkd.in/eABBWFTX .

Integrated land use planning is important because it provides a systematic approach to managing land resources and spatial development, leading to more sustainable, livable, and resilient communities. By integrating various considerations, such as environmental conservation, infrastructure development, economic vitality, and community well-being, land use planning supports the long-term prosperity and harmony of both urban and rural areas in Ethiopia.

The government has proposed a definition of the so-called 'grey belt' in the current consultation on national planning policy. But we think it's too subjective, open to exploitation, and could lead to the degradation of Green Belt land, when we know there's enough brownfield for 1.2m homes. Challenging the definition of 'grey belt' will form part of our response to the consultation - coming in September. In the meantime, here's why we think the countryside around our towns and cities is so important 👇 https://lnkd.in/e4JUhuca

New Towns, Old Challenges? Yesterday, Angela Rayner, the UK Deputy Prime Minister launched the latest government initiative to build a series of new towns across England to meet the demand for additional housing. She pledged to “work together with local people to help us decide on the right places for these new towns, delivering more homes, jobs and green spaces”. Rings a bell? Ministers and the expert task force charged with realising this ambition would be well advised to recall earlier such initiatives, launched with just as much enthusiasm and commitment but beset with multiple challenges resulting in meagre results. One such example was the eco-town initiative launched by the previous Labour government under Gordon Brown (and later unsuccessfully rebranded as 'garden cities' under the Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition government). In our open-access paper published in 2014, Daniel Tomozeiu and I looked closely at the governance-related challenges contributing to the initiative's undoing. So, lessons can and should be learnt. #newtowns #UK #ecotowns #econeighbourhoods #housing #policy #England #sustainablehousing #transition #planning #greenbelt #brownfield https://lnkd.in/eMU9YTh3
