Last month, I had the honor of speaking twice at MDRT. I can confidently say I’ve NEVER been to a conference like it in my entire life. And I’ve probably attended 100 conferences in financial services so far. The level of energy and organization was off the charts. Nothing else felt like it. Attendees had to qualify to be there, so they were extra proud. You could feel that sense of accomplishment in the air. But there was another big difference 😨 Nobody had any idea who the hell I was. Usually, people are familiar with me when I go to a conference. That was not MDRT! Self-doubt has a way of creeping in when you’re outside of your comfort zone. And I was feeling it! It was my first time speaking in front of 1,000+ people — and I had zero credibility with any of them. Normally, I feel like I'm at least at midfield when I attend conferences. But here, I felt like I was receiving the kickoff and watching a lineman charge at me full speed! Could I score a touchdown? Hell, could I even catch the ball?! 😅 I needed to establish credibility super fast! How? By presenting the best damn speech I could present! By having confidence in myself. Now, I don’t think I ended up scoring a touchdown after all, and that’s ok. But I did put ProudMouth in a favorable position with my audience. And I did inspire them to *stop being the best-kept secret* and get their voices out into the marketplace. After my presentation, the audience stayed and talked to me for 30 minutes. I actually had to be escorted out because my time was up! But before that, people were sharing their content ideas with me. And you know me, I gave them my honest opinion. Most just want an objective third party to answer “Is this a good idea?” Most of us just need a nudge to get started! I was honored to be that person. ~~~ Thank you all for supporting me as I checked off this MAJOR career milestone! My best advice for presenting in front of any crowd – whether 10, 100, or 1,000 people — is to practice, practice, practice.
