When is the right time to bring on a Board of Advisors?...🤔 As the business grows we are encountering new challenges that as a solo founder can be tricky navigating. I'd been considering the advantages of building an advisory board and to my delight was invited by Barclays Eagle Labs to an event earlier this week that focused exactly on that. Here are my key takeaways from the event: 👉🏾 The purpose of the Board of Advisors is to help you and your business see around the corner and be strategic with your next moves 👉🏾You want a Board of Advisors that can be agile and adaptable to your businesses needs 👉🏾There is no set time for how regularly your board should meet - you may meet as little as quarterly or as much as weekly 👉🏾It's always important to formalise the agreement you have with your board advisors so that there is no doubt as to what is expected of both parties, remuneration etc. 👉🏾Finally the best questions to ask yourself before appointing an advisor are; can they do the job, will they do the job, and can I afford them to do the job? Remember as a start up, cash is king and you have to be wary of how you spend that cash, making sure you get value for money. Have you built a board of advisors?
