What happens when the minority fully becomes non people of color or women and the same programs being pushed back on right now, will be the only opportunity they have for fair equity? Had a great conversation with a colleague in the DEI space and she pointed this out to me and it has stuck in a way that I can’t shake. All the push back and retreating on programs designed to allow for equal opportunity will soon become what the “new minority” will need since professionals of color and women will be the main majority. What are your thoughts on DEI now being treated as a nice to do vs a must do? What happend to all the Executive talk on creating equatable and fair workplaces? What happened to the urgency? My keynote "The Future of DEI in Corporate America" is timely given the daily news headlines. 👉Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, & Bank of New York Mellon are among the US banks reassessing their DEI initiatives. 👉Changes include broadening internal programs to include everyone, eliminating hard DEI targets, & reworking recruitment programs aimed at underrepresented minorities. 👉Many companies publicly maintain their commitment to diversity, but privately many recognize the setbacks caused by the campaign against DEI. 👉Hope is not lost in our efforts to increase US workplace diversity. It means we adapt our approaches, reevaluate processes & systems, become more data-driven, & focus on programs that produce results. My latest op-ed with @MahletGetachew, Managing Director at @PolicyLink, delves into businesses' need to stand firm and articulate the true value of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts. It's clear that DEI initiatives go far beyond hiring practices—they foster healthy, thriving workforces that bolster communities and the economy. Studies show that companies committed to DEI outperformed their peers by 400% post-2008 recession. DEI efforts also lead to supplier diversity, pay equity, and skill-based hiring, benefiting the 60% of adults without a bachelor’s degree. We need more initiatives such as JP Morgan Chase’s $30 billion commitment to closing the wealth gap, which is yielding positive results. This is a call to action for business leaders to champion DEI and translate its benefits into tangible, nonpartisan messages. Now is the time to make lasting progress, ensuring shared prosperity and well-being for all.
