The question I'm asked most often is what led me to a career in wine. It was a roundabout journey but so many experiences in my personal and professional life guided me here. Thanks to the team at CH Wine for capturing my unscripted answer! The only thing I would add is that my degree in anthropology has served me well as a wine writer because wine reveals so much about culture and humanity. https://lnkd.in/ecf8QPtC #wine #winewriter

🍍 The Pineapple Principle 🍍 Q: What makes up wine? A: Grapes, mostly. Q: Can you get Merlot out of a Pineapple? A: No. Q: Can the greatest fanciest most talented winemaker in the world get Merlot out of a Pineapple? A: No. Q: Why not? A: Because Merlot is made out of grapes. Often we judge our proverbial winemaking skills by our ability to get Merlot out of Pineapples. We judge ourselves unlovable when we pick people who are incapable of loving. We judge ourselves unworthy when we pick redemption projects that are unattainable. We judge ourselves less-than when we pick metrics of achievement that are out of alignment with our real values. Beware the Pineapples. They're everywhere. And they'll make you doubt your winemaking skills. #anxiety #worklifebalance #womenentreprenuers #mentalhealth

Petite Sirah and Syrah have very similar sounding names, so are they the same? Nope - they’re completely different grapes! You might be familar with Syrah from the northern Rhone (think St. Joseph, Côte Rôtie and Cornas) and you’ve definitely had Syrah from down under, where they call it Shiraz. But what is a Petite Sirah wine like and where can you get one? Everything you need to know is in this article: https://lnkd.in/e9G5K7Jc

For the latest issue of Glug Magazine Wine52.com I wrote an article that's a bit different from the usual. It's a (hopefully) fun exploration of what it means to judge a #wine #competition, the types of characters you encounter at the judging table, and the value of these competitions for both consumers and judges. Pretty much everything in the article applies equally well to #beer and #spirits competitions. https://lnkd.in/dmBXGcjn #winejudge #winecompetition #judging #tasting #winetasting

la croix de ducru beaucaillou 2018 Second Wine ducru beaucaillou RP:92point Second Growths,GCC 1855 Deep garnet-purple colored, it exudes vibrant notes of crushed blueberries, baked plums, and blackcurrant cordial.Hints of bouquet garni, underbrush, clove oil, and cast-iron pan are also present.Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a sturdy frame of firm, grainy tannins. It supports muscular black fruits, finishing earthy. This wine is not a second wine as it comes from a dedicated part of the vineyard. harvested very small berries, the ratio of skin to juice was high。ust enough freshness to lift the dense fruit to a long finish.
