Just another example of the ongoing competency crisis. Incompetence is endemic in the western workforce, effectively enabled by cultural trends and social conventions about the meaning of work and, more broadly, life. “You deserve a paycheck” is an integration of the new western mantra: “you deserve”. You deserve happiness, you deserve comfort, you deserve to get your way. Your actions have no consequences. The real question is how much more entropy can this system handle before it collapses. I guess we can all keep pretending that the next generation will be able to prop up our institutions. We’ll find out soon enough one way one or another.

It's been 2 years since I joined ALS Recruitment. I have been pondering over the things I have learnt, what I am good at, what needs work.   My findings...   ☕ My love for a Hazlenut Mocha.. (hated coffee when I started, Anna told me I would be converted in less then 12 months. I think it took me 6 🙈   🥗 The best balsamic glaze to exist.   🥖 The fact I can’t live without Sourdough bread. It happens the other way as well, Tyler! I fully agree with you. I had an online interview with an HR Manager recently who started off with, “I haven’t done a deep dive on your resume”. Said another way, “I haven’t looked at your resume or prepared in any way for your interview. And this was one I was recommended by a colleague and happened to be in my group of “really want this one”. I felt like stopping the interview to set up another time when the person could be more prepared, but that would be the same as saying that I was no longer interested (likely right?). And I had done a deep dive into this companies history, everything. Just wanted you to know it happens on both sides. *what I liked most about your post is you are willing to wait for the right person. 200%. I can’t tell you how many times my teams have been short-staffed and I’ve been asked, after a round of interviews, which candidate I was going with. Answer: none. Follow up question: How come? Answer: none of the candidates is right for the role. Peace! Good luck with your search!

Seven tabs... I have seven tabs open at 8pm on a Friday night. The last couple months have been kind of strange; The fact, I lost my job two months ago. The fiction, everything else will wait. The bills don't wait. The pressure doesn't wait. I can say I've spent time every single day Monday-Sunday putting effort into job searching and applying, some opportunities waiting around for different reasons to be let down with no explanation. If someone can explain their situation, their experience and their character do they not deserve an explanation back? Everything from Retail to Hospitality to Admin roles. We all make mistakes but I believe that every mistake is an opportunity to learn in some capacity. #jobsearchadvice #thoughtfortoday

Picture this: It’s nearly the end of December. Your job is due to finish on the 22nd just before Christmas. Your client haven’t given you an extension… But you’ve heard on the grapevine there’s potential for more scope or another job in January. I’d always expect an extension at least 2-3 months before the end date. As most Clients know what’s round the corner. But that just doesn’t always happen. I am measuring my vegetables to make a recipe and the bag says it has “about 3.5 cups”. You can see it is just 2.5 cups. Once defrosted, it was 2 cups and that wasn’t enough to fill my recipe. 🤔 PIVOT If you are searching for a new Executive Personal Assistant position, make sure you read the wording with regards to how much of your time you will be doing what. All too often I will hear an EA being told their position is more EA only to end up becoming more PA (or visa versa). It is important to know what you want and get answers to questions that could make or break getting it. 👉🏼If you know that you enjoy a busy, challenging position and will not be happy if you aren’t using your skills; then find what the volume of work is. 👉🏼If you are ok with personal financial work but not running personal errands, then find out what “personal” means. 👉🏼If the position is “24/7” does that mean you are expected to be on call every minute of the day or be able to handle emergencies as needed? Just like a realtor will use the word “charming” instead of “it’s the size of a closet”, job descriptions will have language to distract you from the reality of the position. Your health and satisfaction comes first!...Check a job location before applying In our bid to quickly land a job especially as career starters, we don't consider the cost on our overall health. ******* Here is a short story. I was recruiting for a front desk officer role sometime ago and because it was an entry level role, I only needed specific skills and a desire to work. I wasn't so much interested in the candidate having experiences in a previous front desk role. I saw Kemi's application and believed she would be a good fit. The job was on the island whilst Kemi lived quite far away on the mainland. Over the phone, I told her the job location and the salary the company was offering. She was eager to come in. Until I had to reiterate the distance, cost and make her consider the risks in taking this job. 👉We must be cautious. 👉Take a moment and consider before accepting any role. 👉Tell the recruiter, can I call you back whilst I consider my options 👉Don't be hurried into making any decision Have you ever accepted a job you eventually regretted? The role of a Guest Service Co-ordinator can vary each day. From sending and receiving information from each group before they arrive, to being the first point of contact when the guests are on centre, each day is never the same. Amending invoices, preparing keys for groups before they arrive on centre, and showing potential new bookings around centre are also some of the roles a Guest Service Coordinator is tasked with. #administration #outdoors #learninganddevelopment

Experiences: 1.-I worked cleaning houses with my friend. My clients adored the work I did by asking me to exclusively work for them. 2.- I worked in a place that sells frozen yogurt and I had a problem with one customer. She complained about her order because she didn't communicate well when placing it. I quickly resolved the problem by letting her know that I will fix the situation. The problem was fixed soon by good communication and everyone was happy. 3.-I worked cleaning houses for a company but ended up leaving after a week because there was a lack of getting paid on time. One of my many job values is getting paid on time for the work I do.
