There's a near duopoly between Boeing and Airbus in aircraft manufacturing. And in the cargo aircraft manufacturing, Boeing’s domination continues. But Airbus with its new wide-body production freighter, the #A350F (based on its successful A350-1000 passenger aircraft type) scheduled for commercial operations in early 2026, Boeing’s domination in freighter market is already challenged. With more than 50 orders from multiple airlines that include Cathay Pacific/Cathay Cargo, Etihad/Etihad Cargo, and Singapore Airlines, competition is getting intense. The B777-300ER: Tail Strikes and the Art of the Unintentional Tail Wag As an aviator with more stories than a flight attendant on a long-haul, I can tell you that the Boeing 777-300ER has a unique talent for giving its tail a bit too much airtime during rapid rolls. It’s almost like this majestic bird thinks it’s a puppy trying to catch its own tail. Now, don’t get me wrong, the B777-300ER is a marvel of modern engineering. But when it comes to tail strikes, it’s got a bit of a reputation. It’s as if the plane took the advice “keep your head up” too literally and forgot about the rear end. Imagine this: You’re smoothly guiding this giant bird down the runway, everything’s going as planned, and then, whoops, the tail decides it wants to audition for a low-budget remake of “Top Gun.” These tail strikes during rapid roll remind me of a young pilot eager to impress—full of enthusiasm but sometimes forgetting the So, what’s the lesson here for us aviators? Well, After all, in aviation, as in life, it’s not about the tail strikes you endure, but how gracefully you can laugh them off and keep flying high. And if you ever find yourself in a rapid roll with a B777-300ER, just remember: Easy on the throttle, and save the tail-wagging for the family dog.

Pedestrian safety is a two-way street. It's a shared responsibility between motorists and pedestrians. Motorists must stop for pedestrians in crosswalks. Pedestrians have the right of way in a crosswalk unless a peace officer or traffic control device directs otherwise. This means vehicles must stop and yield to pedestrians even if the crosswalk is unmarked. Pedestrians need to be alert, and cautious, and make eye contact with motorists. Do not jaywalk. This article immediately made me recall a 2011 discussion I had with military intelligence coworker. We were discussing future threats on the horizon and he made fun of China for owning just one carrier (at the time a partially derelict former Soviet Russian tub). He said with a dismissing chuckle, “they will never have a blue water navy.  They have no need for it. They are not reverse engineering anything.  They are using that old carrier as a shopping mall!”  I shook my head and the conversation ended as there was no convincing him otherwise.   In hindsight, I must say that willful ignorance of the facts staring straight at us can have crowd/mob dynamics. There can be comfort in the act of sticking your head in the sand and it’s remarkably contagious.  Sure being wrong in front of peers, family, friends or faced with challenges in your life can be a scary thing. I think that’s why some folks choose blissful ignorance…the easy way out (let someone else fret and be prepared)…until there’s a Pearl Harbor day moment. Then it’s shock and claims that “nobody saw it coming.” That’s just no way to live.  It’s far better to get your mind inside triaged challenges than be surprised, wrapped up, and sieged by them.  Time/foresight + historical precedence x motivational aims = perspective + preparation = readiness 

I agree the number commercial aircraft maintenance issues recently reported are concerning. To attribute them to Boeing may not be factually correct as they may not be design issues. I suspect these may be related to maintenance providers either 3rd party or the airline. It is important we keep in perspective maintenance related issues so that the root cause is understood and addressed.
