“In a time of mounting environmental degradation and runaway social inequality, we need impact investing to be more than traditional investing with an impact report. Impact investors need to address the urgent problems that are currently neglected by capital markets, help their investees to center social impact in their growth strategies even if there are no knock-on benefits for financial performance, and find entrepreneurs from nontraditional backgrounds that mainstream private equity and venture capital players are overlooking. And they should do all that even at the cost of greater difficulty. If it is to be done well, impact investing should be hard.” #philanthropy #advocacy #equity

"...charities engaged in racial justice or similar work should not despair or feel they must rethink their funding priorities and strategies. Instead, they should speak out against the appeals court decision and continue to perform their important work in the way they think best accomplishes their mission. I won't do too much because he said I was not allowed, but I'm grateful that Larry Buycks is getting recognized for the incredible human being that he is. Building a team is hard. Building a team of partners who excel in their area of expertise, you can trust without question, and make the work joyful is even harder. Transforming community philanthropy, including getting much more creative with how we use capital to invest in communities, is no small task.
