Ideas only come to life when you share them - just spotted this on Simon Sinek's Linkedin header and thought - so true! I have a mission to train 20,000 Menopause Coaches who can go out into the world and help people successfully navigate their menopause transition in style! By the end of this year, I will be getting towards my first 500 and scaling at pace. I have now trained people in every continent and have the most awesome expert panel who deliver outstanding sessions to each and every cohort. I had an absolute awful menopause at 37. Thought it was early onset dememtia?! As a sole parent, with a baby who was not meant to survive and has life long medical needs, I never thought I'd work again. Fast forward to 18 years post menopausal, and I have a global business based on sharing my ideas and all the knowledge I am gathering along the way. I surround myself with industry leaders, get to sit on the most incredible committees and contribute my ideas at government level and in the media all across the world, and I cry, each and every time someone I train shares a win they have achieved and a successful outcome with their clients. Happy tears are my jam. I spent all my professional life trying to fit in and now, frankly, I am happy if I stand out. Because I no longer care what others think of me, how I look or what I sound like. I am building my tribe and linking arms with others so that we can go into the world and make change happen. Despite menopause affecting an additional 1.3M women each year, only 20% of OB/GYN programs provide education on menopause, usually as an elective. If women aren't getting the information about their bodies they need from their providers, where are they getting it? We are seeing an influx in investment in menopause, many from digital health companies looking to fill the gap. These companies are meeting a significant need in the market, but is the awareness level there to move the needle? Working with health insurance companies, digital health companies, and women's health companies, I work at the intersection of access to care and commercialization for many women's health solutions. According to a Yale University study, 60% of women with significant menopausal symptoms sought medical assistance, yet more than 75% of them were left untreated. What have you been told when seeking menopause care? Ladies, this phase of our lives can be fraught with so much confusion and frustration. Unfortunately, most healthcare practitioners are not well versed in Menopause care. Women are left to suffer their way through with severe impact on self esteem, quality of life, productivity and focus at work. Menopause costs women 1.8 billion dollars annually in lost productivity. Ladies, there are so many tools to support you through this phase - do not be convinced by your MD of something different. Here are some tips on finding a MD who understands your options: 1. Reference the North American Menopause Society database to "find a practitioner." 2. Speak to friends and family about their experience and if they would recommend their provider. 3. Let's talk women's health ⬇️. In 2022. NHS England estimated that there are around 13 million people who are currently peri or menopausal in the UK, which is equivalent to a third of the entire UK female population, so the growing conversation is needed and essential. However, the flip side of increasing awareness IS needed;in the words of Karen Morton Morten, Founder and Medical Director at Dr Morton's - the medical helpline©, all that glitters is not menopause, so education is key. Karen and I discuss; 🎯 The importance of normalising menopause 🎯 Menopause education and the development of an AI-driven conversational app  🎯 The need for all employers to have a menopause policy but states that a policy alone is not enough 🎯 Advice for parents of teenage girls ( This one's for me!) 🎯 The downsides of menopause awareness, including the pressure on women to seek medical help and the false expectations created. 🎯 Group consultations  🎯 Virtual women's health hubs in primary care And so much more….. Meet the Menopause Friendly Independent Panel 🤝 Suzanne Banks CBE is a retired chief nurse, currently working as non-executive director in an ambulance trust and with an independent organisation on digital quality assurance. She recently finished a project with NHS England as clinical lead on their national menopause programme. Suzanne is keen that organisations and companies learning from each other, saying, “The work we’ve seen so far in terms of menopause support has been nothing short of inspirational. The thing I love to see the most is when organisations adopt best practice from each other – some tell us in their applications they’ve done this. It’s not about sitting on your own initiatives and keeping them secret, but about learning what works and sharing this as good practice. I think it would be lovely to see even more of this going forward. It’s wonderful to see an increase in support for menstruation and menstrual health issues starting to come in. These can impact people for a number of years and be quite significant in a lot of cases. Essentially, if you want to retain your talent then offering the right support is essential."
