Electric Vehicle Sales Growth Is Slowing Globally. Here´s Why

Volvo Group buys Proterra Inc battery business "Volvo Group has been selected as the winning bidder in an auction for the business and assets of the Proterra Powered business unit at a purchase price of USD $210M." In what appears to be some good news is that the now bankrupt Proterra will sell its battery business to Volvo. This will give its customers more surety moving forward. It also gives Volvo products, particularly heavy duty, access to a US supplier, very helpful for Buy America policies. However, it still comes at the expense of Volta Trucks which was declared insolvent primarily in response to Proterra's supply problems stemming from bankruptcy. Which is a real shame However, hopefully it can move forward strongly with the new management. Hopefully too, the same situation can play out for Volta. Trucking companies have mostly refrained from buying the vehicles because of concern about cost and durability, as well as a lack of battery-charging infrastructure to support trucks on long hauls. The absence of a used market for electric trucks also has been an impediment, since most trucking companies count on selling their trucks to recover some of their costs.
