This company has grown so much, and I am so thankful for each client who has got us to this point! When you meet one of your heroes and you swap storm stories and you lead with your management fails, move to how you volunteered during Florence at the Friday Center under her leadership, mention how you really appreciated her leadership and finish with "you are everything I want to be and more." And she replies, "You were a start-up, I inherited the American Red Cross." My most prized possession. I was expecting a signature not a note. Be mindful she carried on a full conversation while signing and never missed a beat. Her leadership tips. 1. Hire slowly. The pain of a vacancy is easier to deal with than the pain of a bad hire. 2. Hire diversity; people who think differently. My heroes do not play sports. They save lives and empower others to do the same!

How much local, state, and federal funding, tax credits, or other government benefits or incentives did the project receive? 2. What is the affordability period for each project? Is the affordability period permanent and in perpetuity? 3. What guarantees exist have your local, state, and federal government officials obtained in writing that rents will not go up or that tenants will not be displaced or evicted after the "affordability period expires? Earlier this week, I had the joy of attending the Community Leaders Breakfast led by the amazing team at the United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes (special shout out to Christopher Bechle and Megan Antonitto) and hosted at the gorgeous Oak Hill Country Club. I was seated at Table 2 and had the privilege of learning from Philip Pecora alongside Rochelle Moore and Craig Gingerich, CFP®, C(k)P®, AIF®, CHSA®. Here are my takeaways: Key takeaways on leadership: - Build authentic relationships - Communicate well - Listen - Lead and make decisions with conviction - Use persuasion to get buy-in on decisions internally - Don't be afraid of important distractions and interruptions, they can be good for building trust and advancing the mission - Empower the team to own their solutions - Don't get stuck in the details if you are big, use broad brush solutions, if you are small and nimble, use that to your advantage by going deep into the details Key pieces of advice on career building: - Be bold - Don't be afraid of taking calculated risks - Volunteer  - Be in a dedicated relationship with your local community Grateful to be a part of a community that invests in upcoming leaders!

The old management adage is that if you don’t measure it you can’t improve it. Of course you have to be wary of optimising for what you measure. But I am increasingly struck by how critical this adage is for regulation and supervision in the conduct space: getting beyond setting expectations to identifying and measuring outcomes and taking responsibility for them. It is of course harder said then done, but that’s no excuse. The pay-off could be agility and flexibility in the ‘how’ of delivering outcomes.
