This month, we’ve been reflecting on women in aviation and aerospace who inspire us. Elroy Air’s Chief of Staff Alexandra Blake shares a remarkable woman who inspires her. “An inspiring female aviator in my life is my husband's grandmother Betty Blake. Inspired by a meeting with Amelia Earhart in her hometown Honolulu, Betty joined the 1st class of Women’s Air Force Service Pilots (WASPs) graduating in 1943. Although she was not permitted to fly in combat, she ferried more than 30 aircraft models to various locations during the war. Her favorite was the P-51. A self-described rebel, she captivated everyone in her presence with her humorous and colorful stories, eventually doing numerous speaking events to inspire future generations of women. In 2015 she passed away at age 94, the last surviving member of the first class of WASPs. I became close to her while in college, and I credit her with my interest in aerospace/aviation.” #womenshistorymonth
