U2 in The Sphere, #Vegas last night. "Whether or not it is the future of #entertainment, it certainly FELT like the future." Today I handed in the manuscript to publishers Routledge of my new book on MEDIA MANAGEMENT AND LIVE EXPERIENCE. It's all about the fact that for all the AI-driven synthetic content in the world, actually people crave analogue connection yet more. Incredible, real experiences are taking over the zeitgeist - like #BurningMan, #Glastonbury the #WorldCup Final, the #IndianPremierLeague, China's booming music festival scene, the #UEFAChampionsLeague, the #SuperBowl, #Coachella, #TaylorSwift, Theme Parks, the Saudi investments in football and golf, sports betting, #InterMiami....and the #MSGSphere. The book is out in March - and bang on the zeitgeist (I think.) Saïd Business School, University of Oxford

What are the implications of #AI for the #media business ? #Distribution and discovery have changed forever. #GenAI is knocking out the basics of production - like, say, cameras or even sometimes actors. How does #copyright work ? Do #jobs evolve, grow or shrink ? What are the lessons from that for all other industries ? How does #compliance work best in balance with #innovation ? That's the focus of my course, exclusively for Saïd Business School, University of Oxford Exec MBA graduates, late October. Details below ⬇
Here's to you #OxfordEMBAS22 - it was wonderful to share these two years with you and hear the whoops of joy as the doors closed on the Sheldonian Theatre and celebrations begun 🎊 We look ahead now to your next chapter as alumni and hope to welcome many of you back to our upcoming #EMBAInspires series. This is an excellent FT piece on the need (and opportunity) for the UK Government to adrenaline the UK creative sector after a difficult period. But it almost completely misses out the threat and opportunity of AI. I would argue that it doesn't emphasise enough the capacity for overseas-based AI tech platforms to take production away from UK centres. Or on the other hand, the opportunity that we have to further dynamize creative production if we get a more front-foot role in the ownership of underlying AI models as a nation. And finally, it doesn't go far enough in the need to include AI in creative education. Or am I wrong ?
Can Labour revitalise the UK’s creative industries?

AI is a threat in entertainment and media - right ? Maybe not. Is AI actually an opportunity for amazing new paradigms of creativity ? This was my fascinating discussion with Will.i.am - written up and discussed for The Conversation. A couple of choice quotes: On whether a creative abdicates to the Large Language Model - or whether really we are more like chefs with ingredients: "Let’s say an LLM right now is like broth. It’s the ingredients to make soup. It doesn’t tell you what type of soup you’re going to make, because … the LLM has no clue that it’s going to speak." And on a completely new model of entertainment: "There’s going to be a TV show or series [where] everyone’s going to feel like they lived that memory. It’s not going to be a show that you watch – you’re gonna feel like you know those people in this world … Right now you have viewers, listeners. We don’t have engagers." What do you think ? Opportunity, or threat ? Saïd Business School, University of Oxford https://lnkd.in/ePvmDdy2

How great it is to have guests join us at Oxford and tell us what's going on in the real world. (Hang on, surely passing the port at dinner is real too ? :) This was Daniel Andrews telling it how it is in a digital/social marketing agency, with some superb case studies - joining a wonderful group of international students in Digital Marketing, in the truly beautiful grounds of Worcester College.
Honoured to have been invited to speak at University of Oxford this week as part of Dr Alex Connock’s media and marketing course. I had the privilege of lecturing on social-first marketing and how leveraging social data and insights enables us, as an agency, to create deeper connections with customers. It was a pleasure to engage with such talented and driven students – the future of marketing is in great hands. Thank you to Oxford for the warm welcome and the opportunity to share my experience in such a prestigious setting. #Marketing #SocialFirst #OxfordUniversity #CustomerInsight #DataDrivenMarketing #FutureOfMarketing
