People & Culture in Tech | Fractional Head of People

If you're looking to increase diversity in your tech organisation: 🙌 Look beyond family friendly policies, and stop making gendered assumptions about priorities of any candidate in front of you 🙌 Take the desirable skills off your job adverts 🙌 Think about different ways of life, and beyond the optics 🙌 Take it seriously, and get everyone involved Not all women want or plan to have children, so they won't all care about your enhanced maternity leave. Because it's definitely enhanced, right? People who are underrepresented in tech are less likely to apply for your job advert if they don't hit almost 100% of the qualities you're asking for. And you don't actually need them all. Especially not the Computer Science degree. Diversity isn't just about demographics, it's also about attitudes and ways of thinking. That's what will make the magic happen in your team. If you set up a WiT group and it's a room full of women talking about the problems that face them, you're not doing it right. Get allies involved, and empower the group to create some tangible results. 💥 If you actually want to improve the diversity of your team, do it. 👋 Message me on LinkedIn ✉️ Email me [email protected] 🔔 Ring the bell on my profile to follow for updates 💻 Visit acthr.co.uk #diversityequityandinclusion #diversityintech #peopleandculture

Don’t forget that whilst some women won’t be looking for enhanced Mat leave, some men will be looking for enhanced paternity leave, shared leave policies and options around flexi working. I’ve often found that these policies are only available after you start too…

👊Boom!! Inclusivity shouldn't be exclusive!! And spell out in your job vacancies who is the best fit........resembling that existing team they will join. Oh and things like a pension aren't an employee benefit! Love this!!
