‘Autism: In conversation with auticon’ is BACK and we are so excited to share the first episode of Series 5 with you… It’s Valentine’s Day, which got us thinking about relationships – whether that be romantic relationships, friendships, working relationships, and beyond. My purpose is to support empty nest moms and midlife women in creating a purpose-led, fulfilling, and fun life. As I appeared on different podcasts, I realized I wanted to do the same for others. I decided to become a podcast host,🎙 sharing stories of empty nest and midlife transformations. Every third episode, I get to provide insights into creating mindset shifts for purpose, happiness, and always fun, because this is truly my jam!🥁 In September 2022, I set an intention to launch my own podcast, and it manifested😇 in March 2023. Gender bias assumes a lot about a woman's desires, fertility and role as primary carer. But recent statistics evidence the need to challenge fundamental assumptions about women's lived experiences: 🤱 Fewer women are having children: Total fertility rate (the average number of children a woman is expected to have in her lifetime) in England and Wales was 1.49 children per woman in 2022, the lowest since comparative data began being in the 1930s 🤱 Women are having children older: A record 56.5 per cent of women are childless at 30 🤱 Women are having fewer children: Average number of children per mother is 1.94 This conversation is focussed on women's health and the role employers can play in providing much needed support to their female employees as they juggle varied - and sometimes crippling - conditions. It feels like everyone is playing catch up: 🔬 Clinical research has suffered decades of under investment 💊 Lack of training and institutional bias mean it can take years for common women's health issues (like endometriosis) to be diagnosed and treated (whilst those women suffer) 🕯 Infertility is increasing ...and whilst we're all trying to educate ourselves, thousands are falling through the cracks in women's health services, resulting in women spending 25% more of their lives in debilitating health than men do. Businesses can help women access resources though, if they choose to listen, design, and measure for intended impact. Zooming in on menstruation and fertility specifically, I loved speaking to Julia about the gender health gap and some of my personal experiences navigating it all over the past 5 years. I have a lot more to learn - we all do - and thanks to some incredible female role models, innovators, academics and entrepreneurs, I'm hopeful that my 4 year old daughter's health future will be much brighter.
