PTO is even more important for remote workers. (more people need to be talking about this) As much as I love the benefits of work from home... - no commute - comfy clothes - fewer distractions When your house becomes your office... It's much more difficult to separate work & life. It's hard to relax, even on weekends. Mentally, you're always on. Work from home guilt (logging back on at night if you feel like you didn't get enough done during the day) is REAL. Just because you aren't physically in an office doesn't mean you don't need time away from work. *slams laptop shut til Monday Happy 'merica week 🇺🇸 P.S. What's your favorite way to unplug?

If your using andriod and have a corporate device, turn off your work profile so you don't get email or Teams notifications outside of working hours. Also plan to get work done during the working hours, outside of that you don't work unless your on call or there is some emergency you have to attend to (happens as an engineer). If you feel like you didn't get enough done, just remeber you'll probably feel like that everyday for your entire IT career. There is a never ending stream of work to do. It's important to unplug. It's hard to be your best and be effective if you just work constantly without proper work life balance. Especially as a remote worker.

My favorite way to unplug, is rustic camping with my kids. no electricity = literally unplugging just me the kids and nature.

"Work from home guilt" Yeah, real thing and been there. I actually prefer to go into the office... due to several reasons but one of them is the "separate work & life problem". What am I doing to unplug? I go outside and enjoy the vast green areas around my home (Allgäuer Alpenlandschaft) with my wife and kids. And just to make you a little bit jealous: In the winter time with enough snow (of which we usually have plenty) I can ride the snowboard down the mountain directly onto my porch :P

Yep, the remote and hybrid setup is great, but it allows for a blending together of personal and work time. You do have to make the effort to close the laptop and step away. Travels with the fam and gaming are ways I unplug.

This! Very true, telling myself this for the holiday weekend to actually “turn off” and relax. Thank you for bringing this topic up and have a wonderful, relaxing weekend!

So good! For staycations like this week: * house projects * running/cycling with friends * family time and cooking I too decided to set hard boundaries on work this week. Cisco laptop shut down and all notifications off 📵

I hope you lightly slammed* the laptop; guess you'll find out on Monday, haha And for me, I enjoy a nice walk and video games (does that mean I'm cheating if I technically have to plug back in for the games)?

What if you’re getting all of those symptoms even while working at the office 😂

Agree 100% about this. I feel IT Security should disable access during PTO. But that’s just me. lol! 🤘🏻🤙🏻
