I spent a large portion of my early adulthood miserable in my own body. Recently I had a conversation with someone who told me that I didn’t need to feel ashamed for sharing photos so much on here. And that it’s ok for me to admit that I do like what I look like - that I don’t need to feel guilty for being happy with what I see in photos. That struck a nerve for me as I haven’t always been healthy (or happy)… It’s been nearly 14 years since I decided to change my life, and throughout those years I’ve lost and gained multiple times. The metaphor for life it seems. ⭐️Win ⭐️Lose ⭐️Learn ⭐️Move forward ⭐️Keep trying There’s a lot of mental that goes into the physical for someone who has spent over a decade “maintaining”. Last night at 4am (what’s a little insomnia? 😅) as I was scrolling, someone who was just starting their weightloss journey asked a group to share before and afters. So I made one. And I remembered the conversation last week. Along with the person on here who sent me an unsolicited DM on here for sharing photos with all of my posts. We all are living and experiencing things others know nothing of. If people are proud or want to celebrate, instead of judging or accusing them of bragging, instead maybe support or encourage them. 🙏🏼 (Or just keep scrolling if it bugs you) A little kindness goes a long way. And if anyone is reading this and struggling with positive self image or weight, please know that you are worthy, regardless of what that scale says or what you see in the mirror. There are people who love you and think you’re amazing. ❤️ #mindset #health #learning #linkedin #connections

That's why I always refer to it as "mental and physical fitness" it can't be one without the other. Great job inspiring others to take hold of their health. If I could add to that, especially for us women over 40, strength training is a MUST. Weight loss IS A GREAT START, but building muscles is better, and more sustainable in the long run.

Awesome job. I have struggled with weight my entire life and recently reached my first goal of 100 pounds. I am now back to my high school weight of 215. It is a long road with many setbacks and hurt. Generally guys do not talk about weight problems and self image issues but it is difficult. I can now look in the mirror and be proud of my accomplishments. You should be proud too because you look amazing and that has to feel wonderful.

I think many can relate to this. I can. As a fat kid growing up from age 10-14 not the best years to be called husky, big boned, etc. I was fat I ate lard! I was fortunate to have parents that cared and went to fat camp to lose weight. The rest is history. What worked for me is simple. Never want to experience that feeling again of being unhappy insecure and yet fat. It’s not for me. I didn’t want to even take my shirt off at beach pools anywhere. Since 19 years old and working out like a beast I’m more shirtless than with shirt. And I wear it well. 😃 Congrats on the transformation. I like to think of it as a transmogrification!

What a transformation, Alexis. Thanks for sharing! It's important we never judge a book by its cover because there is always a story. A lot of people (on social who hasn't followed me for a long time) accuse me for starving myself because I am being.. but my lifestyle (as a cyclist + biohacker) keeps me effortlessly lean without having to obsess over wellness, count calories or even worry about exercising everyday. I've eaten more than all my ex's!! It is frustrating because many people will just ignore you if you're fat, but they will talk about you if you're "skinny". Once you put on your habits on autopilot, living healthy is effortless. Many people do not want to do the hard work up front.

Alexis Rivera Scott - I have also gone through this due to grief and the pandemic. People are going to be haters. There are authors and critics in life and I choose to be an author (much like yourself). Keep doing you. You’re fabulous and we go through this life one time. Do yours as fabulously as you can. Girls need to support girls. Period. I’m here for it and that’s why you’re part of my girl tribe. I’m about uplifting women. Period.

I read was a 6 ft waif of a chick my whole life, 125-135 was the "norm", on a hard work day or skip dinner day, I could be 120. It just was. Then I turned 40. Holy shyt! I now weigh damn near double. It's insane. I changed nothing but I had changed. I am quit comfortable in this chunky bod but I do worry about my health and I would be lying if I said I don't have the worst reflux, insomnia, and headaches. So. I know it's time to do something (sigh). I don't know what. I don't know how (3 jobs, house, kids, etc). But I know it needs to be done before it's too late. Congrats to you for taking that journey. It is not easy. Takes a lot of perseverance and hard work. I commend you 👏 👏 👏

Great post, Alexis! Being vulnerable to share your authentic self, the before and after, is exactly what people need to share. Social media has screwed up so many people by others only ever posting their “media worthy” pics. So many psyches are damaged. They think it’s a competition to be the most whatever. Some will need a ton of counseling because they don’t fit “the mold.” I wish there was no mold, but society sets the standard. Those who break the chains will live happier and healthier lives because they understand that we are all unique.

That's commendable . We are wired: we think we feel we act, to make changes we have to reverse the process: we have to act to get the new feelings to create new thought patterns . You incredible thing to regain your Health That's awesome ! Kudos job well done taking off weight when job well done keeping it off

As someone who has struggled with their weight journey most of my life. I reached a milestone weight loss of 110lbs in order to be able to have my transplant complete. Now I have a much healthier relationship with food!
