Being a part of an organization is tough. You have to maintain the culture and vibe of the workspace, be on the same page with everyone irrespective of their difference in opinions, and above all, fight tooth and nail against everyone who thinks you are a waste of time, ESPECIALLY when you're making waves, and all eyes are on you, like carrying a bullseye on your back. Hence, no wonder why many organizations crumble before they can even begin. And even if they do survive, there is often very little to salvage from. However, being a Founders' Friday lead at EdVenture Park has taught me that, with the right people and the right mindset, it is still possible to make it all happen. Organizing THE flagship event of EVP every month, launching companies into the market, bringing in quality crowd, changing the conversations, these are some of the few things that are improbable, but not impossible. When you believe in something hard enough, the dots will connect on their own, and you'll find your path in due time. Is it very tough? YESSSS. Will we still make it happen? One year ago, I flew out to LA to participate in a client's end of the year retreat. I couldn't have imagined what followed...   After an engaging day packed to the brim with insights and ideas, the team went around the room allowing each team member to share their goals and aspirations for the year ahead. As I listened to each person, my systems brain was busy at work drawing connections between their goals and the themes that had arisen throughout the retreat. When it was my turn to speak, I mirrored back to them what I was hearing. Next year was about elevating the business in a big way. From our offerings to our team to our client experience. The foundation was laid. The opportunity was there. I encouraged them to lean in and commit. "We want to elevate and scale up what we're doing!" became a rallying cry as the year kicked off. But I don't think any of us realized the extent to which that statement would come true. We 4x'ed the business in what felt like the blink of an eye. Was it hard? Yep. Was it crazy at times? For sure. But all the work we had done to refine the process and create a scalable infrastructure gave the team the foundation they needed to really shine and excel. Couldn't be prouder of them. So as I head out west again for this year's retreat, I can only imagine what new adventures await. I'll be sure to share with you all. TEAM CULTURE HACK ==> DO HARD THINGS TOGETHER The weekend before an all-company meeting, a daring offer loomed in the air—a campout and trail race, optional for the team. Those who signed up were caught in the crossfire of excitement and apprehension. Set against the breathtaking Cascade Mountains outside Seattle, the Ragnar Trail Race awaited. Three legs, nearly 3000 feet in elevation gain, and a grueling 16 miles of challenging terrain. Forget plush hotels; tents and sleeping bags were the order of the day. Some were seasoned campers, while others were novices. Elite runners stood shoulder to shoulder with those attempting their first 5km trail run. And the kicker? Most had never run through mountain trails in the middle of the night. So, why did so many of us sign up? I have a theory—a trifecta of reasons: 1️⃣ Personal Challenge High: The allure of a personal triumph. 2️⃣ Team Belonging: A profound sense of being part of something greater. 3️⃣ Peer Pressure: The unique ability of trusted peers to propel us beyond our limits. In the post-race snapshot, not a single face wears a frown. The glow of accomplishment radiated from every individual. Teammates supported each other, creating a case study for teams in business, sport, and life. Crucially, it was a hard thing we all did TOGETHER. Becoming a 'Best Company to Work For' isn't just about perks and ping pong tables—though those are undeniably delightful additions. It's about more, not rocket science but certainly no walk in the park.
