The TCS 10k marathon is not just a race it's a celebration of unity and diversity. From seasoned athletes to first-time runners, people from all walks of life come together with a shared goal i.e to challenge themselves and support each other on the journey. As the course winds through city streets, the energy is palpable, fueled by cheers from spectators and camaraderie among runners. Crossing the finish line isn't just an individual triumph, it's a collective victory, showcasing the power of unity in pursuit of a common purpose. The TCS 10k marathon exemplifies how sport can transcend boundaries, bringing people together in a spirit of harmony and collaboration.

My reflections a week after running the TCS 10k in 63Min 10Secs. Last Sunday, I ran the TCS 10k, as I have been doing for the last several years. Running the TCS 10k has always been a fun experience. While it may not be a full marathon distance, it is rewarding to see what my body can do when I push it. This year, I had only done 5km stretches in my training runs and was a little apprehensive about running the full 10km on race day. But the supercharged atmosphere and being in that environment with 1000s of other runners with the same goal got me going and I managed to run the whole distance without stopping. I saw once again just how powerful self-motivation can be, especially when paired with drawing energy from others around you. I also learnt how important the setting is and why it matters to create an environment in which you can work towards greater heights. Before the race began, I was in a holding area that was not moving as fast as I would have liked. We were standing in the same spot for several minutes and nearly half an hour after the scheduled start, we heard the announcer saying the people still in the holding area would be disqualified if we did not cross the start line in 5 minutes. I was worried about losing time being stuck near the tail of the crowd. But this worry melted away as I found gaps and powered through. The biggest lesson here was how crucial it is to keep calm when problems arise because that can make the difference between success and failure. I started my run at my own pace. It was going well until I saw a group led by a runner who was making a pathway through the crowds right in the middle. The group was clearly faster than everybody else around so I joined them on the fly and my pace increased and stayed there for the rest of the race. It only became clear to me just how fast I was going after I crossed the finish line and saw my timings. As I sat by the side and iced my knees, I realized that a high-performing team led by a competent leader can take an individual to further heights, even if you don't realize it at the time. I aim to be that kind of runner and leader next year so I can clear a path for others to realize their full potential. Despite running with the fast group, my energy levels started dropping towards the end. Of course, I noticed it, but I knew that I would not be able to recover my pace if I were to slow down, especially in the final stretch. And so, I pushed myself to keep going. I realized only later that the other runners around me were also taking in energy drinks and chocolates along the way, which kept their energy levels going. Had I done the same, I could've potentially improved my timings. As important as skill, and preparation is, you cannot put that talent to use without the right fuel. It's another world record for London Marathon Events Over 840,000 people applied to run the 2025 TCS  London Marathon. That's remarkable. And, yet, not shocking. This year's TCS London Marathon was glorious. Once again.  Notably, almost half of the applicants were women for the first time. (50.33% men/49.03%women /.64% non-binary) Inspired by the #NewYorkCityMarathon in 1979, London Marathon co-founder Chris Brasher challenged London to have the "heart and hospitality to welcome the world" like New York and said, "To believe this story, you must believe that the human race can be one joyous family, working together, laughing together, achieving the impossible…" All these years later, that's still the essence of the magic that inspires people to dream big. As Charlie Dark MBE MBE , founder of #RunDemCrew, encourages on Marathon Sunday, "If you don't run, cheer." Congrats to everyone who ran London and Boston (and any of the several marathons and half-marathons of late), and hear-hear to those who worked or cheered (or both). You start the flywheel by inspiring others to give it a go. Kudos to Hugh Brasher and the London Marathon Events team for your inclusive vision and ambition to get everyone active and add and grow events. 🖤 Monday Morning Updates 🖤 This morning we were shocked with the news that probably the greatest distance runner who has ever lived died overnight. Kelvin Kiptum was, without doubt, going to be the first person to break the 2 hour Marathon in competition and set a legacy that would never be forgotten. Our head coach James Thie had the pleasure of working with him at the TCS London Marathon last year and I remember him saying that he wasn't just an incredible athlete but an amazing human. Our thoughts are with his and his coach Gervais's (who also sadly passed away) family. It seems wrong to talk about business but here are 3 very quick updates: ............ 1. 2025 TCS London Marathon Partner Meeting Last week we had the brilliant 2025 TCS London Marathon Partner event. We got to hear what all the other Official Partners were planning for the race. We were by far the smallest business in the room (TCS, Nissan, Lucozade, New Balance, Abbott etc....) which left us thinking we need to think more out the box to stand out..... 2. Release Management With so many releases ready to go live, this week we are working on a better system and process for managing releases so everyone in product and dev knows what features are planned for what release and at what time. We used to be good at this but as we have grown it needs a bit of a revamp. 3. Friday No Meeting Days Fridays tend to be a day where I have very few meetings as most of the team are off, but this Friday I had ZERO meetings. Even one little meeting causes a fair bit of disruption in the day - thinking about it, getting set up, writing notes afterward etc. It's so tempting to push meetings into your 'free day' but after the success of this week I'm looking to be stricter about keeping Friday's free. ............ The hardest thing about running the TCS New York City Marathon was not the race itself But the actual training for the race Yes, running 26.2 miles (actually 27.5 so must have zigzagged my way across New York!) was bloody difficult. But reflecting back on running the Marathon in 2022 from the comfort of my sofa, I believe training for it was even harder. And you learn so much about yourself, and what your truly capable of. Committing to running 3-4 times per week for 16 weeks, whether it’s cold, dark or raining - or all three - is hard. Experimenting with a nutrition & hydration plan is also a challenge if you’ve never tried before. And when the long Sunday runs start, they quickly ramp up very quickly: 12 miles, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22. In addition to your 2-3 other weekly runs, and any other training you do too. Balancing it around running a business, looking after a family, all whilst trying to see your friends, is even more difficult. But come race day, you’ll be able to rely on all those tough experiences to pull you over the finish line. So for anyone thinking they can’t run a marathon, I’d like to challenge you to push yourself out of your comfort zone, and find out what you’re truly capable of. You’ll be amazed what you find out.
