What does Roger Bannister mean to your career and your life? On May 6, 1954, Roger Bannister broke the 4 minute mile barrier. In the years that followed, dozens of athletes then did it. The story usually ends there - when someone shows you what is possible, it paves the way for you to do something. But what about what I shared yesterday, how your mind is the most valuable piece of real estate in the universe? What about letting your mind be free to imagine and dream up things that never were, and putting that into action? It means you wouldn’t have to follow a career path just because someone did it before you. It means you wouldn’t have to accept that you have to work 40 years to retire and sit around getting old. It’s time to celebrate! Today, I celebrate a new job, a long over-due promotion, a published book, a featured article, and crushing a presentation— all before 8:00 am! I know, you’re probably wondering how I accomplished all of that before 8:00 am. The truth is, I didn’t, but YOU did! Scrolling through my LinkedIn feed this morning, I couldn’t help but feel excited for everyone’s accomplishments. I felt the excitement deeply as if each accomplishment were my own. I come from the mindset that we are all connected. Your success is my success, and mine yours. With this mindset, I believe there is more than enough for everyone. Scarcity is not in my vocabulary. I believe we all have the right to align our soul, goal(s), and role in life, to fulfill our purpose in the most meaningful way. For those of you out there moving the world in a positive direction, thank you for all you do. Keep climbing mountains! For those who feel they may be struggling to meet their own goals and aspirations, or perhaps the mountain in front of you seems a little too hard to climb alone? You don’t have to do it alone. The more you win, the more you will win. Start with one win. Make your bed, meditate for one minute, complete a small goal. Celebrate that win. Then go after the next one. Make it a little bigger. The concept of “sliding doors” has always mesmerized me, and I believe it’s profoundly applicable to our careers. In a broad sense, “sliding doors” illustrates how seemingly small and inconsequential moments or decisions can lead to significantly different outcomes in a person's life. It's a way of contemplating the "what ifs" and exploring how our lives might be altered if we make different choices at crucial moments. Whether it’s decisions about friendships, family, jobs, or what train to take, a single moment can define the path you take. The way I look at it, every job change is a portal to not just a new role, but a new world of possibilities, challenges, growth and ability to create impact. It’s fascinating to think about how small decisions –reconnecting with an old colleague, attending an event, or taking a coffee – can significantly change our professional lives. However, it’s my core belief that the most meaningful decisions are the people that we hold near and dear. Not just personally but also professionally. I would not be where I am today without the beautiful relationships I have woven together. These people have taught me what it means to be a woman in leadership, a working mom, and an impact-driven revenue marketer. They are why I am excited to share my new role as the Vice President of Growth at Own Company. This new position is my train caught; a door slid open. It’s a path filled with potential, new relationships, an incredible team and products, and unexplored territories in my professional growth. But it’s also an opportunity to harness my deep experience in growing and leading teams, while adding new faces to my ever-growing network. My takeway?
