On September 10th, the world recognizes World Suicide Prevention Day. This is a day when we aim to increase awareness about suicide risk and reduce the stigma of asking for help. The first step in being able to help is to understand signs that could suggest someone may be at risk for suicide. Some of these signs include: Depression and Hopelessness Social Isolation Verbal Clues Giving Away Possessions Preoccupation with Death Previous Suicide Attempts Sudden Calmness In this week’s entry on the Healing With Alexis blog, I talk in greater detail about these risks and what anyone can do to help if they see these risks in themselves or someone they know. Check out the Healing With Alexis blog now to learn more about what can be done to prevent suicide. https://lnkd.in/geDfYWPW . . . . . . #SuicidePrevention #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #EndTheStigma #MentalHealthMatters #ReachOut #PreventSuicide #HealingWithAlexis #AskForHelp #SignsOfSuicide #SupportingMentalHealth #newblogpost

Content warning: suicide I am proud to play a small part in raising awareness of World Suicide Prevention Day at The Health Foundation. Suicide is preventable – let’s normalise difficult conversations and learn how to ask people if they are thinking of hurting themselves. The Samaritans offers guidance on how to support someone you’re worried about, as well as what to do if you’re not feeling okay yourself: https://lnkd.in/ewQ4j2SJ If someone is at immediate risk of suicide (UK), dial 999. If someone is having thoughts of suicide, encourage them to call Samaritans on 116 123, or text ‘SHOUT’ to 85258. #ItsOkNotToBeOk

A healthy body equals a healthy mind. We are headed towards the International World Suicide Prevention Day come September 10th. WHO estimates show that 1person dies by suicide every 40 seconds. This is such a big number given the burden and toll every death leaves on the familoes and communities. This can be reduced by increasing awareness about suicide warning signs (e.g. someone talking about suicide, making suicide notes, reckless behaviors, giving away belongings, feeling hopeless) and about suicide prevention. Suicide is preventable and all of us have a role to play from identifying the warning signs to reching out and linking people to the right support. #mentalhealthawareness #suicideawareness #mentalhealthmatters
