🏙 𝗘𝗖𝗕-𝗦𝗸𝘆𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿: 𝗔 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗸𝘆𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗳𝘂𝗿𝘁, 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 🏙 The European Central Bank (ECB) has found its new home in the East End of Frankfurt, impressively extending Frankfurt’s skyline with its glass twin towers to the east. Fully glazed doors create an impressive transparency. The architecture is tailored to the location and complements Frankfurt’s landmarks. The striking double tower is visible from many locations and symbolizes the structural change from an industrial zone to service industry. The building concept combines the horizontal hall construction of the Grossmarkthall, housing the bank’s press center, with the vertical city, comprising twisted twin office towers and a glass atrium. The result is a multi-layered building with a unique geometry and with interchange platforms and bridges creating a new type of high-rise building. The energy concept of the award-winning design by COOP HIMMELB(L)AU includes various energy efficiency and sustainability concepts such as rainwater utilization, heat recovery, efficient insulation and the use of the open spaces of the Grossmarkthalle as a "climate buffer". The "shield hybrid facade" of the office towers also enables direct ventilation. The ECB-Skytower fire safety design concept comprises the installation of fire and smoke-tight airlocks in front of stairwells’ access points, drencher (sprinkler) systems, smoke extraction on each floor and a complex fire and smoke detection system. It is in line with the requirements of the Hessian High-Rise Building Directive (H-HHR) of 2014. One of the challenges of the ECB project was managing the site logistics and the large number of individual, multifunctional special doors. Another were several changes in the fire safety design concept that continued well into the construction phases. Finally, the doors with Pilkington 𝗣𝘆𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽®, providing both security and fire resistance performance were almost exclusively custom-made products. Due to the high profile of the bank as a European Institution, a high level of security including strict and efficient access control was of great importance. Lazari Investments secures planning for Foster + Partners’ transformation of the former Fenwick store on New Bond Street. The Foster + Partners-designed scheme includes world class Bond Street retail on the ground and first floors with offices from the second to ninth floors. A number of facades will be sensitively lifted through innovative engineering to align the floorplates above, creating four spectacular two-storey retail units that will benefit from increased floor heights. Working with property owner Highland Development and developer The Davis Companies to design a new ground‑up self‑storage building, 155-165 West 29th Street is 17 stories and 223 ft tall in the heart of New York City. “The design of the building is deferential to NYC’s Art Deco past, taking cue from the city’s large infrastructure projects including ventilation structures, air terminals, and telecommunication towers. While it is the tallest self-storage tower in the U.S. (if not the world), the footprint of the building is relatively small because it is located on a mid-block infill site. As a result, the building works within the urban fabric of the neighborhood in a more cohesive way than more traditional self-storage buildings that take up an entire city block.
