#Mentalhealth is something we all have a level of. Question…. How many of us who are able to call an #EAP service, actually do? How many of us #think ‘oh… it’s nothing, oh…. It’s silly…’ never use it, never call it…. Spectrum.Life have not only answered 1000’s of calls by those who DO use the service, but also have Jennifer Watson as an asset to our service offered through Legal & General Group Protection benefits by identifying the need, the reason, the trends arising from those that do call in her #mentalhealthpromotionofficer role. #Linemanagers #mentalhealth #menshealth all being huge drivers for us in the first quarter. Honoring Juneteenth and Prioritizing Mental Health in the Legal Profession As we honor Juneteenth, a significant milestone in American history marking the end of slavery, it is a time to reflect on the journey towards equality and justice. This day is not only about freedom but also about the ongoing fight against systemic racism. This day also serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of mental health, especially within the legal community. Lawyers from diverse backgrounds often face unique stressors, including bias and underrepresentation, which can affect mental and physical well-being. Acknowledging these challenges is a step towards providing the support needed for their well-being and success. We can all play a role in helping to foster a legal profession that values equality, justice, and mental health for all!

ALA Middle Tennessee Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) The Middle Tennessee chapter is making great progress on this initiative. Middle TN Association of Legal Administrators challenges all Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) chapters to undertake a similar initiative to ensure access to mental health resources for your members and all of the employees in their firms who are not attorneys. Likely, the resources are available through your state or local Lawyers Assistance Program (LAP). Shouldn't these resources be available to everyone working in the legal industry? So many legal assistants and paralegals serve on the front line with lawyers who have mental health issues. They need to be aware of the signs and symptoms raising red flags, both their own as well as those of people with whom they work closely. The challenge to law firms is to eliminate the stigmatism inhibiting your people from reaching out to these professional resources provided by your local bar, State Court or other agency in charge of your LAP. I love what Tim Barker is doing with Kooth Digital Health (United Kingdom). They are a £20m revenue Uk business with good growth and financial characteristics. And last year won a big contract competitively to deliver their service to the state of California. But that’s not the story…… so what’s the story? Profit with Purpose!!!! They have a greater social purpose, they “create a welcoming special for effective personalised digital mental health care. Accessible to all” - and not only in the UK, they recently won the contract to deliver this service in the state of California. From their 2022 annual report: “We offer rapid and responsive access to support without thresholds, stigma, or waiting lists, in a way that resonates with those in need of help. Our model is responding to a global mental health crisis which is driving long-term demand for digital mental health and is seeing significant ongoing funding commitments. Global mental health crisis The human and economic impact of poor mental health make for deeply concerning reading. In the US, 57% of teen girls feel persistently sad or hopeless. 22% of high school students seriously considered suicide in the past year. In the UK, latest statistics for 2021 show a record 4.3 million people were referred for mental health services, a rise of 15 percent from the previous year. In 2021, US Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy called for urgent action to transform access to mental health care for young people, calling it the 'defining public health crisis of our time.” Chapeau Tim!
