It is evident that we live in an era in which social media have the power to shape policies, elect governments and alter opinions. Agenda promotion or social engineering? #DigitalDiplomacy #SocialMediaStrategy #SoftPower #GlobalAffairs

Assistant Professor at University of Nottingham Malaysia | Business school| Panda Diplomacy, Chinese Soft Power, Government & Business
When I started doing research on Chinese soft power and panda diplomacy, I never thought that I would garner the kind of media attention that I did. A few days after the Washington Post story on panda diplomacy broke out, my wonderful and super talented friend, Ramez Abubakr Badeeb, told me that if one big media outlet comes round knocking, the rest will follow. I was sceptical. Nah, a fluke; just a one-hit wonder. Then more journalists from abroad started asking me for interviews and live shows. He was right. 😲 Why was I doubtful? One, the whole media thing was just unreal. I wouldn't have, in my wildest dreams, imagine being quoted by the Washington Post, let alone appear in the same article as Vladimir Putin of Russia! Two, I felt that there were more deserving people that journalists could look for. Though truth be told, there aren't too many people who actually work on panda diplomacy. Three, this really hits home, but no one cared. When I started my panda projects in 2019, I thought people would love the stuff. But nope, I garnered little to no traction from researchers around me, including experts working in international relations and environmental science, whom I thought would jump on board. So, my scepticism wasn't entirely baseless. Someone asked me how do academics get media engagement. Frankly, I don't know unless you become the NEWS for very right or wrong reasons. 🙄 Beyond that, you probably can't speed dial a journalist from the New York Times and expect to get interviewed the next day. The other way round usually applies. It's about working on the right topic in the right place and during the right time. But whether a topic blows up and when it does is shrouded in mystery. So, like all things, luck matters. #pandadiplomacy #internationalrelations #environmentalscience #washingtonpost #media

The Battle of the Narrative played out within the information domain is fundamental to strategic competition. If one is not actively engaged, one is ceding cognitive terrain to be manipulated. This report is but another call to action. A new report by the U.S. Department of State's Global Engagement Center (GEC) reveals how the People's Republic of China (PRC) seeks to reshape the global information environment. The report, titled "How the People's Republic of China Seeks to Reshape the Global Information Environment," identifies five key elements of the PRC's approach to information manipulation: (1) Leveraging propaganda and censorship (2) Promoting digital authoritarianism (3) Exploiting international organizations and bilateral partnerships (4) Pairing cooptation and pressure (5) Exercising control of Chinese-language media Hopefully, the following will be translated into Mandarin, Tagalog, Thai, and other regional languages and advanced through multi-modal public diplomacy efforts. It needs to be more than just writing a report - it must be actioned. https://lnkd.in/gRUXyf3V #ccp #china #prc #misinformation #disinformation #propaganda #cognitivesecurity #asiapacific Information Professionals Association Daniel Kimmage Erik Quam Mike Studeman

The Consequences of the Loss of Reasoning and Diplomacy in Politics When reasoning and diplomacy are lost and rejected by politicians, several negative consequences can arise: *Polarization: Increased division and polarization within society, as emotional and partisan arguments replace rational debate. *Ineffectiveness: A lack of constructive dialogue and compromise can lead to legislative gridlock and ineffective governance. *Erosion of Trust: Citizens may lose trust in their political institutions and leaders, leading to decreased civic engagement and increased cynicism. *Instability: Without reasoned decision-making, policies may become erratic and unstable, leading to social and economic instability. *Injustice: Policies made without objective reasoning are more likely to be unjust, disproportionately affecting marginalized groups and exacerbating social inequalities. Building a system that serves all citizens adequately requires a commitment to reasoned and objective thinking, as well as a willingness to engage in diplomacy and constructive dialogue. When these principles are upheld, a more inclusive, fair, and stable society can be nurtured. NO Reasoning, No objective thinking will result in the following: *Polarization: Increased division *Ineffectiveness: legislative gridlock and ineffective governance *Erosion of Trust: decreased civic engagement and increased cynicism. *Instability: policies may become erratic and unstable *Injustice: Policies made without objective reasoning are more likely to be unjust

In this new piece, I argue that we should move away from describing international politics in terms of polarity. Instead, we should see IR as one big network.

Monday: Sadly it does not look like a bot overloaded my newsfeed with Environment and Diplomacy this weekend. I always believe human rights are symbiotically in parallel with the climate. The impact of the current global environment has directly affected each organisation, government, business, and individual within; therefore, that impacting you or your employees. Perhaps your organization needs to seek guidance In harmonizing the communication in this overloaded moment. Behavioral change or corporate behaviorial change impacted from our our environment should not to be overlooked; because it going into direction where the Spin like atoms never fusing easily back together.. when to every action and new thought is developed, one needs to be aware that no thought or action is empty of a bias within an environment of any point in time or space. This bias therefore will emanate the impact either positive, negative or both. I hope and want to see diplomacy intervene on social media sites before we lose the grasp to maintain the how, and viabale reach to the world’s political system that should abide to the human rights of individuals. I support life and the justice of international diplomacy through the United Nations and may the World Court of Human Rights to become a clearer voice and more involved in communications. #WorldCourtofHumanRights #HumanRightsCouncil #EthicsofWriting
