Thank you Suppliers Partnership for the Environment for your leadership in facilitating collaboration toward more streamlined reporting for automotive manufacturers. "Participating automakers and suppliers including Ford Motor Company, General Motors, American Honda Motor Company, Inc., DENSO and Toyota North America, collaborated to release the Automotive Climate Action Questionnaire to improve consistency in Scope 3 emissions reporting." What does this mean for auto suppliers? The goal is that this new questionnaire will provide a consistent template for auto manufacturers to report and manage their emissions, energy and water consumption, waste generation, and monitor climate goals - all at the site level. Through collaboration amongst the OEMs, it is also intended to reduce reporting burden for suppliers. Companies are overwhelmed the many varying requests for information around their #sustainability performance. Streamlining reporting is essential to allowing companies to focus on what really matters when it comes to sustainability - managing their impacts and improving their performance. We hope that this is a step toward further collaboration to develop tools companies can use to show they are managing their impacts responsibly in a more efficient and consistent way - and achieve ambitious targets across supply chains. #esg #accountability #supplychain #reporting
Thanks to Supply Chain Dive for highlighting our recent Automotive Climate Action Questionnaire collaboration, led by SP members such as DENSO, Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Honda Development & Manufacturing of America, Magna, Toyota Motor North America, and supported by Manufacture 2030.

Professor and Associate Dean at Copenhagen Business School I focused on ESG and corporate sustainability
New study shows that lobbying by the 15 largest automakers worldwide is a key barrier to more ambitious climate policy and electric vehicle uptake. The study looked at the firms' climate policy engagement in seven key regions. Overall, a sobering read... For 10 companies advocacy was misaligned with science-based policy (indicated by score "D" in the image below). Toyota, for instance, engaged directly to weaken GHG emission standards in the US and Canada. Also, most firms' own electric vehicle production forecast (for 2030) does not align with the International Energy Agency's (IEA) updated 1.5C scenario for 2030 for the auto industry (66% required production versus 53% forecasted average). Japanese automakers seem to be the least prepared overall... Full study: https://lnkd.in/diwyRjy2 #climatechange, #decarbonization, #electricvehicles

If Scope 4 Emissions are the avoided emissions should we introduce the term Scope 5 Emissions to refer to policy engagement. With hight emission indicating an aggressive approach to lobbying against common sense climate policies?
