The #GenAI movement worries me sometimes… Here’s WHY: In the last couple of weeks, I’ve had hundreds of chats and discussions with data enthusiasts, and guess what? Almost all of them involved GenAI use cases. What worries me to see is that it seems like the wild data use case hunt from former days, tossing GenAI solutions at any problem that can be found - but without a real clue for the actual business value but hope for some kind of improvements. 🥴 ⤵ Here’s my game plan: 🚫 Stop the GenAI use case hunt! 🧠 Focus on your real business problem. ✍️ Write it down so both data and business teams get it. 💡 Define the added-value it brings to the company if solving it. 🎯 Align it with a business goal. 📊 Prioritize problems/opportunities based on business value. 🛠️ Discuss the best solution ideas - spoiler: it might not be GenAI. 🏆 Implement the high-value opportunities first. Let's talk about #genAI I agree with the general premise "genAI is thrown around without any clear business value, very often, and that's not a good way to do business." But I come to a different conclusion. I think the right way to approach genAI isn't to ignore it completely and just see it as one possible technology that might implement a potential solution. Here's why: 1. generative AI provides a huge leap in technology. 2. Huge leaps of technology are hard to grasp. 3. There are no good practices around big leaps in technology. Taken all of this together, it's actually pretty hard to tell when generative AI might be the right tool to solve a problem. So instead, I think everyone should: 1. Build something with generative AI! Anything at all. 2. Use that learning (because you're not gonna learn anything about generative AI from blog posts) to slowly learn how this tool works and what problems it could solve. 3. Then think really hard about potential problems that are core to your business that this thing might solve. 4. And only then, if you come up with nothing, go back to the process Nadiem outlines below. It's like being handed a chainsaw without a manual. Yes, it's dangerous, but if you ignore it, you're not gonna figure out the benefits either.

Empowering data-driven decisions through the integration of a robust data pipeline, visualization tools, and the power of GenAI. Yesterday, I had the privilege of presenting a proof-of-concept on behalf of my colleague, Shiva Pappu, MBA, CIA, and our teams from #BI-X, #DataExcellenceServices, and #GlobalMedicalAffairs. Our recent PoC leverages #GenAI to assist leadership teams in their decision-making processes, where we aime to significantly reduce the complexity of navigating through an extensive array of dashboards and datasets. The initial steps we've taken and the constructive feedback received from the leadership teams and the GenAI expert Michael Schorpp have instilled in us a strong belief that we are on the right track. Of course, the cornerstone of our success lies in the significance of data pipelines, data modeling, and data quality. For instance, the dataset used for the PoC necessitated the integration of nine different sources and multiple transformations. As we continue on this journey, we look forward to exchange more insights and breakthroughs.
