Singaporean Diplomat Kishore Mahbubani Though we appear to think we are, we are not even in the Geopolitical game in the Indo-Pacific. As the distinguished Singaporean Kishore Mahbubani bluntly states, the geopolitical game in the Indo-Pacific is for economic influence, not military coercion, which China is adeptly playing. Instead of competing with China from a first economic and second security strategy to preserve its 70-year domination of the Indo-Pacific, America has chosen to extend the limits on its credit card to reassert and expand on its Cold War Security Containment Strategy. We see this in the creation of the QUAD, which pretends it can bring together in alliance nations whose economic and security interests vary and sometimes contradict America's Indo-Pacific interests. Along the QUAD, we have rejuvenated Cold War security alliances. We do not see that as the major trading partner for all our Cold War Indo-Pacific alliances: Australia, Japan, the Philippines, and Korea. Thailand- is China, and America remains, on paper, at least, their security guarantor. America's policymakers believe the threat of force in the Indo-Pacific trumps opportunities to enhance prosperity. The challenge for America is to reimagine its Cold War alliances from simply a security focus appropriate to the Cold War to a new look at 21st-century alliance formations and partnerships that start with mutual economic interests, laced with necessary Security provisions, that end with mutual economic payoff. A geopolitical America First Interests vision in support of like-minded Allies and partners would be our starting point. Why is it not?

The preferred destinations for capital flow will no longer be solely focused on where the highest returns can be sought. This is a click bait headline and a poor choice of words for a renowned global news agency like Bloomberg. Singapore is in a much stronger place, we are also not a one-man band; you are talking about a group of leaders who are comfortable to discuss a wide range of complex issues without aides and make the right calls. By the way, Singapore has always assumed the world is a dangerous place. That is the modus operandi of the current ruling party and that is how they have secured the mandate of the people for decades. Growing up in Singapore, at every national day rally, the PM of the day will tell you how Singapore might die tomorrow if you do not buck up and fight for it. Being existential or in our lingo, Kiasi (which in hokkien means: afraid to die) is a quintessential Singapore trait. I say this because compared to many countries , the quality of Singapore’s political leadership is great. And in terms of levers of exercising agency and odds for success, we are in a good place with the resources and access to markets. Granted that the risk levels are higher . But this also apply to every nation too but to suggest that the loss of the current PM makes it fragile is a disservice to him because he is passing to a good team and strong institutions. I am personally confident that we have the strength and the chops to thrive as a nation. It will be an exciting chapter for all of us. #singapore #politics #leadership

We heard great insights about U.S. market entry from representatives of three Finnish companies: Sauli Sinisalo of Bluefors, Johannes Suikkanen of Gemic and Joni Lampinen of iLOQ. A key factor in the much-needed growth of the Finnish economy lies in growing our exports, especially to the United States, the world’s largest and most dynamic market. Lessons learned by successful companies like the ones above are important to those aspiring to enter the U.S. Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland including the Consulate General of Finland in New York and other diplomatic missions must double down to assist companies in market entry and expansion.
