Attain recently led a system-wide conversation to explore what a 21st century hospital needs to look like for Urgent and Emergency Care. Here's some of the key components we identified: ✅ Access designed to suit modern lifestyles: working with patient groups will help establish the best approaches to accessing support, factoring in digital and community-based diagnostic solutions as well as wider local health organisations ✅ Right time and right place to avoid emergency departments: allowing all clinicians to make referrals to ED alternatives through a centralised approach, such as urgent community response, would grant patients access to UTCs without an ED-only referral ✅ Urgent Treatment Centres: through working with GPs, a right-sized primary care UTC provision could be established to provide minor illness and minor injury support with the required diagnostics ✅ Demand management: providing interventions, such as 111 and child health app 'HandiApp', will help prevent unwarranted demand for accessing UEC. Targeting walk-ins and addressing this cohort's needs differently will ensure only urgent and emergency cases attend ED.
