Mum, widow, passionate advocate for suicide prevention. Dedicated to giving hope to those affected and bereaved by suicide. Suicide Prevention & Bereavement Manager at Solace Empowerment Charity Blackpool
I was asked my thoughts on why this petition is needed. As some of you may know, life hit me with a curveball and my family found ourselves in the center of an atomic bomb that shook our family to the core. On June 20th, 2020, the day before Father's Day, Glen sadly died by suicide. Seemingly out of the blue, it left me as a widow with 5 children and Glen's eldest daughter, who was coming up to 22, numb, shocked, and in complete disbelief. From six months after his loss, I have devoted endless time to raising awareness and speaking publicly about the effects of suicide. Why do I do this, people ask? Because I don't want anyone to feel that pain we felt and can continue to feel, and helping is healing. Grief is not something you just get over, and suicide loss is an extremely complex grief that is amplified. Some days, I can still feel like I just exist. It can be exhausting, and at times, a wave still knocks me off my feet. However, this doesn't mean life doesn't go on. It does, but it's a very different life that I wouldn't want anyone to join. I now work in suicide prevention and bereavement support for Empowerment Charity and I am working wirh Sounddelivery Media that has given me the tools to push for change. The evidence is staggering on the effects of suicide, and so much is postvention. Suicide should not be the biggest killer in: Males and females under 35, males under 50, pregnant and postnatal woman within the first year. One suicide is estimated to affect up to 135 people and let's remember that people affected by suicide have their own risk and statistics increase. So many children are bereaved by a parent, and they aren't counted. I could go on and on. However, as you all can see, NOBODY IS EXEMPT. I truly believe this petition and policy are needed for change. Nobody should lose a loved one to suicide, and statistics have been stagnant for far too long. We need to work towards a zero suicide rate, and I believe we need a national policy that is community-backed in every local area. Please get this petition signed don’t be part of the next statistic 🥹 The Jordan Legacy CIC #suicidepreventionawareness #zerosuicidesociety #suicideprevention

I've nothing more to add, in terms of comments, other than to say that what Sam has to say in this video is the reason why she is supporting our cause at The Jordan Legacy CIC. Break Fake Rules! 💪 Loving this video series out of Stupski Foundation on all the "rules" driving philanthropy that need to be questioned, flipped or composted. Thanks Stupski CEO Glen Galaich and Pia Infante for naming and sharing. -- We need to give tidal waves not teaspoons (of funding) -- The 5% payout = a teaspoon structure. -- The flaws of strategic philanthropy—too donor-centric and focuses on donors to determine strategies and pathways for action. -- The silo’fication of philanthropy: We work only on “this X issue” to the exclusion of all variables that make up the interconnected crises we face and the polycrisis world we live in -- Need to right size and re-imagine the role donor preferences play (to be in deeper accountability to the communities we serve)

Rather than discussing money for the first time while the family is gathered around the TV watching football 🏈📺, approach the topic weeks ahead of time if possible. Casually mentioning that it’s on your mind will help plant the seed🌱 for a future convo with your loved ones and get them thinking about their plan (or lack of one). For more ways to talk money with your loved ones this holiday season, see this week’s blog. ▶️ https://lnkd.in/gR8y9wSB #oaktreelawfirm #MNattorney #MNestateplanningattorney #MNimmigrationattorney #MNfamilylaw #estateplan #willsandtrusts #powerofattorney #healthcaredirectives #assetprotection #legacybuilding #familylegacy #MNmom #MNdad #immigrationlaw #familylaw #landlord #tenant

As a Nonprofit Consultant and Chaplain, it's concerning to see how the Pro Act in CA and now the federal Labor Dept. edict are impacting independent contractors. Even with special waivers by lobbyists (newspapers, rideshare, etc.) approximately 79 million Americans are affected. It begs the question, why is our government destroying our independence - working how and when we wish... from home to be with our children, to be a nomad,, or retired professionals as I am? It's disheartening to see the impact this is having on our nation's workforce and the right to work independently. Americans do best when left alone - free to create, to add value to others, to be free from the clock, or a "master". Let's hope we can find a way to support independent contractors and protect our rights. We're too important to American life and independence.
