I'm proud to share and support this new American Heart Association Cardiovascular-Kidney-Metabolic Health Initiative to assess gaps in clinical care for cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome patients, identify areas for future research and put science into practice to better treat this complex health threat! CKM syndrome was first defined by the American Heart Association in an October 2023 presidential advisory and scientific statement, both published in its flagship peer-reviewed scientific journal Circulation. About 1 in 3 U.S. adults have at least three risk factors for #ckmsyndrome, a health disorder related to the strong connections among cardiovascular disease, kidney disease and metabolic disease (such as Type 2 diabetes and obesity). As the underlying conditions of CKM syndrome worsen, the risk of heart attack, stroke, heart failure and kidney and liver diseases increase. This important initiative was made possible through the visionary leadership collective of people truly passionate about patients. Thank you to our founding sponsors Novo Nordisk and Boehringer Ingelheim and our many collaborators including American College of Physicians, American Diabetes Association, American Society of Nephrology, National Kidney Foundation, STOP Obesity Alliance at The George Washington University- Milken Institute School of Public Health and Cardiometabolic Center Alliance. It has a huge impact on quality of life as it causes #constipation and bowel accidents. 🚀  "This will change how we produce guidelines in the UK for the better" From our client, a leading UK guideline association, who just shared with us that the study we’ve conducted is now available in the BMJ (link in description). 🔬 The lack of standardisation in developing clinical practice guidelines can lead to inconsistencies and gaps in implementation. Our client wanted to determine how topics in kidney care should be chosen, prioritised, designed, and implemented for guideline development in the UK. 👥 Using a modified Delphi method with a multidisciplinary panel of UK kidney healthcare experts, we generated strong evidence for the selection, development, and implementation of nephrology guidelines. - 419 total responses - 55 non-clinical respondents (mainly kidney disease patients and carers) 🌟 The results then provided the basis for six recommendations. Based not only on expert opinion but also incorporating patients’ voices, we are excited to see how this work contributes to best practice development. #ClinicalGuidelines #KidneyCare #Nephrology #EvidenceBasedMedicine #PatientCare #BMJ

A retrospective chart analysis of adolescents diagnosed with PTS from January 2014-December 2015 at the pediatric cardiology clinic at Children’s National Health System were reviewed. 93% of the subjects reported pain at the time of diagnosis, with 46% of the sample reporting more than one site of pain. 🔹Orlando Health has implemented the world's first blood test to assess the severity of traumatic brain injuries, reducing the need for CT scans and delivering results in just 15 minutes. Developed after 25 years of research, this test uses biomarkers in the blood to determine the severity of injury, facilitating fast and accurate medical decisions. Although it is currently approved only for adults, efforts are underway to adapt it to the pediatric population.
