What a smart move. Everyone knows there's plenty of options out there. Welcome to the "dark side". LOL! Isn't that what some companies try to convince you? Everyone also knows the truth. Hey, are you thinking about making the move? 🤔 Maybe you're feeling "stuck" out of fear... 😨 Fear of losing your clients... ✔ Truth is, you made those clients for the company. ✔ The right ones will follow you. There are plenty out there who need you. Fear of losing deferred compensation... 😱 ✔ Truth is, your company is keeping the lion share of all comp. They're holding back some of the comp you earned. They're giving it as quarterly bonuses to the top producers. They're stuffing some in deferred comp. ✔ Truth is, we don't get that kind of bonus here. We don't have deferred comp. Why? Because we get to keep the entire amount we earned right away. Fear of losing your agents... 😨 ✔ Come on man! Don't you know about the leadership skills of our National Recruiting Director? 🤗 Lyn Godfrey Or her drive? Or her heart? There is no quit. ✔ Truth is, your company is keeping the overwrites on their agents on your team when the agent leaves. You're an employee. ⁉ Why try to train 10 agents a month to watch 9 leave only to give the clients and overrides on the 9 agents' clients to the company? Insert whatever fear you're choosing to believe. Fear is a liar. How do you handle a prospect at the kitchen table in this situation? Use that tactic on yourself. Don't let fear manage your career! 😎

This week we're spotlighting NCEDA member Courtney Ashley! Originally from Denver, NC, she is an alumnus of University of North Carolina Wilmington. Presently, she calls Shelby her home, where she serves as the Executive Director for Cleveland County Economic Development Partnership. We asked Courtney five questions to get to know her better: 1. What do you love the most about your job? A: Cleveland County has been my home for the past seven years, and I couldn't be more honored to step into this role where I'll have the opportunity to contribute to the economic vibrancy of my own community. 2. What is your go-to comfort food? A: French fries and ice cream - the perfect combination of salty and sweet! 3. How did you get into the field of economic development? A: I have worked in local government for the majority of my career, and I love the feeling that I am actively contributing to the place where I live, work and play. It's exciting to be a part of the positive growth and vitality that economic development brings to your community. 4. What career advice do you live by? A: "If every moment in your life is a lesson, then every person you have met was a teacher." Whether it's a passing remark from a stranger or a profound insight shared by a friend, each interaction presents an opportunity for enlightenment. 5. What is your favorite place that you have traveled? A: I count it as a traveling destination even though I also lived there for five years, but Wilmington will always have the most special place in my life. #NCEDA #EconomicDevelopment

What story is being sold about Denver? Ednium started the Denver Deep Dive because we learned that alumni weren’t aware or have access to the systems that help run our city. For nine months, we engaged with the community and learned how Denver's systems are interconnected. The Denver Deep Dive stood out by taking participants to unique city locations: The Denver City & County Building, Comal Heritage (a local food incubator), the CSU Spur Campus, Moline at Stapleton Apartments (an affordable housing community), the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce Building, Manual High School, and Gary Community Ventures. We covered nine topics: 1️⃣ Denver’s History  2️⃣ Education 3️⃣ Economic Development 4️⃣ Housing 5️⃣ Environment 6️⃣ Transportation  7️⃣ Gastronomy 8️⃣ City Politics 9️⃣ Arts & Culture We learned the importance of curiosity and looking beyond the surface of the stories about Denver. Before the modern Denver we know today, indigenous people lived on this land. The phrase, “We did not cross the border, the border crossed us,” reflects how people became Americans overnight by the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo after the Mexican-American War. In our city politics session we discovered the feedback gap between community needs and the people whose job it is to address and solve those needs. In our housing session, it was shocking to hear that originally HOAs were created to upkeep the image of a residential community. City residents are legally obligated to pay HOA dues, but overtime HOAs have become a burdensome fee rather than providing tangible value to residents. We also learned that affordable housing can be built to match the quality of other apartment complexes. Thank you to everyone who participated in our first Denver Deep Dive. Your curiosity made this program a success! Thank you to all the guest speakers for sharing valuable lessons. We envision a future where homegrown talent holds leadership roles throughout the city. 🎉🎂 Last week Oakleaf turned 19! 🎈🥳 Monday 4th July 2005 was a momentous day for me - it was the day I got the train into London for the very first day of Oakleaf Partnership: my own personal Independence Day. I remember it vividly - it was both super exciting and absolutely terrifying in the same breath! 19 years have passed since that day and when I reflect on what we have collectively achieved I'm both humbled and proud. I took a huge leap of faith (in my own ability!) to invent and launch Oakleaf, but the Oakleaf is a symbol of courage after all! With a big mortgage and school fees to pay, it simply had to work. Thankfully, despite the challenges we have faced over the years, from the GFC to Covid and beyond, we enter our 20th year as committed to our customers as ever. Our corporate values and purpose (created and owned by Team OP) totally underpin our culture which, in turn, helps drive the way we treat our colleagues and our customers. At Oakleaf, we don't differentiate between clients and candidates - we only have customers - and I believe this is a unique differentiator in an increasingly crowded market. Over the last couple of years, we have expanded into both the Middle East and Europe, as well as broadening the product offering with our Technology, Change & Transformation (TCT) business. Today also marks the second anniversary of Oakleaf Partnership US - with 10 colleagues already on the ground in the US and with 250 cities bigger than Manchester, the growth opportunity in the USA is enormous. The last 15 months, however, have been particularly challenging for us all, but change is most certainly on the horizon and market sentiment seems to be improving. Long may that continue - it's well overdue. Finally, I want to say a huge thank you to all who have helped us on this journey. In a recent The New York Times article highlighting the impact of #OpportunityZone, our co-founder Max Grelier shared that we are in the midst of an incredible project in a Qualified Opportunity Zone: redeveloping a 140-acre former mall into a dynamic affinity district. The #OpportunityZone initiative has truly accelerated growth in Huntsville. We've seen an unprecedented surge in construction, with 24,000 multifamily units added in just three years across the city. At RCP, we're proud to be part of Huntsville's growth story. The Opportunity Zone program has been a catalyst, accelerated by the tax incentive and attracting early on, allowing us to bring ambitious projects to life that contribute to our city's vibrant future. A great example of how policy can shape our urban landscapes. While the effectiveness of Opportunity Zones varies across the country, Huntsville's story demonstrates their potential to catalyze growth in the right conditions.
