Cricket may not be as popular a sport in the U.S. as elsewhere in the world, but some high-profile CEOs and investors are trying to change that. As the Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup, co-hosted by the U.S. for the first time, ramps up, investors have pumped nearly a billion dollars into their American ambition. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen are among the executives investing in the new U.S. professional league, Major League Cricket. Other cricket investors include Iconic Ventures, Madrona Venture Group and executives from Google. “What gets me excited is seeing if cricket can become a mainstream sport in the U.S.,” said Soma Somasegar, venture capitalist and managing director at Madrona. Somasegar and Nadella are among the key owners of Seattle’s cricket team, named the Orcas. They’re also investors in the overall league. “Satya [Nadella] and I have been talking about bringing cricket to America for many years,” Somasegar told CNBC. Nadella is such a die-hard cricket fan that Microsoft has a cricket field at its campus in Bellevue, Washington. In total, nearly $850 million is currently in the process of being invested in building a viable cricket league in the U.S., people familiar with the funding said. The people asked not to be named because the funding information is private. Currently, there are six professional teams in Major League Cricket, with each team expected to spend between roughly $75 million and $100 million over the coming years. That includes the cost of putting together a team, hiring the right talent and building stadiums where live cricket matches can be played. Adding to the fanfare is the T20 World Cup, which is being held at three locations in the U.S. and several in the West Indies throughout June. On Thursday, in a stunning blow, the U.S. team beat Pakistan in a match held near Dallas. Fans are now counting down to the highly anticipated India vs. Pakistan match Sunday at the newly developed Nassau County stadium in New York. The last time India and Pakistan matched up, more than 300 million people in India tuned in to watch the game, according to The New York Times. Ticket reseller StubHub said the average price of tickets for Sunday’s rivalry match is $1,300. The average price for the other 54 matches of the tournament is $120, the company said. The #USA plays host to its first-ever #T20I (limited to 20-overs per international team side), #Cricket World Cup, (#WC), this year ! (2024) All the buzz about it; is reaching a fever-pitch Crescendo now..... For the uninitiated; wondering what all this hype is about, here are a few similarities, (besides both being bat-&-ball Sports, and the fact that there are limited Cricket substitutions one can make during a particular match, akin to relief #Baseball players), & the many differences between the two #Sports, in a Primer: 1) Baseball is a contact Sport, while Cricket is not one. One can "tag" a Baseball batter out on-field, by "physically" touching the batter, if the latter is off-base, while the ball is still in play ! 2) More than one Baseball batter can get out on any one live ball play, in "double, & even triple plays;" while in Cricket, no more than one batter, out of the 2 batters on the field, can get out off of a single live ball, and the ball is considered dead, if any on-field Cricket batter gets out on that ball. 3) Then; there are the obvious visual differences such as; 3a) The Baseball "home-run," boundaries are, at a minimum, 300 feet from the batting home plate, while in Cricket, the longest boundary, at the #AdelaideOval, is 220 feet from the batter ! 3b) The Cricket bat is shaped like a paddle, while the baseball bat is shaped like a pole. 3c) The Baseball itself, is spungier, weighing less, (at approximately 149 grams, compared to a Cricket ball's weight of 162 grams), and is less denser than the Cricket ball. (The Baseball's maximum circumference is approximately 235 mm, compared to the maximum circumference of 229 mm for a Cricket ball.) 3d) The Baseball has to be pitched, or thrown, from a raised-mound, which has to be at a distance of 60-feet from the batting home plate, while the Cricket ball is bowled, or hurled, (not thrown), from a distance of an approximate range of 57-to-66 feet (22 yards), between the bowler, & batter, from level ground. 3e) Only 3 Baseball batters per-side are presented for becoming out per inning, from each opposing side, (out of 9 innings); however, in Cricket, upto 10 wickets, or outs, within the stipulated 20 bowling overs can happen, & based on whichever happens sooner, the opponents assume their single innings attempt. In retrospect, both Sports have borrowed metaphoric terms from each other, and both borrow gimmicks from each other, such as the #Melbourne #Docklands Stadium, borrowing the retractable-roof concept from the #Toronto Blue Jays' #SkyDome, and the Baseball "Hall of Fame" idea in #Cooperstown, #NewYork, USA, being borrowed from the "#Lords' Long Room," in #London, #UK !

I recently had a chance to talk [Major League] Cricket with Capital Brief. The parallels between MLC as a startup in 2023 and Major League Soccer (MLS) as a startup in 1996 are compelling. The USA had to invest in a domestic football comp as a condition for hosting the 1994 Men's World Cup. The 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta would have given soccer a further boost in popularity within the country. Nearly 30 years on, MLS has found its place in the American marketplace. Now MLC has already launched, and will be boosted not only by USA's co-hosting (with West Indies) of the 2024 Men's T20 World Cup, but also the introduction of T20 as an event at the 2028 Summer Games in LA. Will history repeat itself? Cricket would do itself a favour to make inroads at the college level in the USA. Specifically, there's an immediate opportunity to grow and compete within the Women's game. Once again, we can look to soccer. Why has the USWNT been so dominant? Because the USA college game was, for many decades, the best destination for elite women footballers from around the world. Our homegrown players played against the very best, and became better for it. Cricket can achieve the same feat.

#post10 Perspective matters. Test cricket - Average runs per wicket. Lower the number, better the bowler. One day cricket- Average doesn’t matter on the match day too much, what matters is the economy rate of the bowler on that day. T20 cricket- Economy rate will most likely to be bad for all, bowlers are measured how many dots they bowled on that day! That creates their brand on the batter’s paradise. (Broadcasters also show these dashboards and analytics based on the format of the game only and stay relevant 😊) However, in all forms of the match, one thing creates difference always; number of wickets. That is not comparable to anything. Life echoes this everywhere… How we deal with the situation in different perspectives and different ways…keeps us relevant time to time. However, one thing is not negotiable there. The emotional glue quotient. How humanly we deal with the people. Play your test, one day and T20 game based on the situation and perspective (being humble, respectful and honest)! Okay then, thoughts on game 3 for England, versus Slovenia. I doubt they will risk Luke Shaw as yet because we only need to get a point in this game to guarantee progression. Obviously we wanna win the group but we should have enough to do that without Luke Shaw, Trippier, it will be alright with him now, but as the tournament progresses, we need Shaw back. I’d like to see Connor Gallagher get a go in midfield replacement for Trent. If you want to play Trent play him at right back can you imagine how good he would be going forward from right back. We give these teams too much respect Trent would be great at right back especially his crossing, his shooting, it would be a huge plus point for us and something that our opponents would be really fearful of. I think Gallagher can offer a lot of energy in midfield which is what we’re lacking, high energy pressing, getting tackles in and hurrying up opponent, Connor is great at that kind of stuff it’s where he often shines for Chelsea and he can also arrive in the box with goals. He played so well for Chelsea this season and he is one of the reasons why Chelsea turned their season round this year, so he’s in the squad on merit. Like to see Cole Palmer get a chance this kid is a special player nothing phases him his decision-making is so crystal clear and we need to start using this player. He sees a picture so well his brain is operating faster than the average player,but that’s okay, because players have different attributes and this is one of Coles best ones. He has other attributes too. and that’s great. Its a long time now till the final so we have to use our squad. Keep our players fresh. We have great options bringing Shaw when available. You would rather have these problems early in tournament because we can work on them and correct them. I wouldn’t be too surprised if England just played in a similar way to the first two games in this match because they wanna just get through and then they’ll start looking at ways to be a bit more expansive in attack getting best players on point in the knockout games Hopefully we can use these games as like preparation as well as progression, get Jude firing in the latter stages. By playing,TAA, at Right back we can be more attacking, he is so good, we are weakening our attacking prowess, with him out in the cold. Okay this just a breakdown for options for England and we shall look at the opposition Slovenia later and they currently sit on 2 points after 2 draws,a very steady return, in a decent group.. Built to Fail: Sydney Thunder On Paper, the Sydney Thunder have one of the better Squads in the Big Bash League. But once you begin to look behind the curtain, you see a lot of problems that need to fixed. It's important to remember here that the Acquisition of Talent or Recruitment is One Element of the Team Building Process. When it supersedes Team Building, it can lead to negative outcomes. For Example, on paper the Sydney Thunder had 5 Openers. If that's not Roster Replication, I'm not sure what is. If you subtract David Warner whose availability is an issue because of Australia's Summer Schedule, 4 does not go into 2. That's problematic because it means that Players are Playing Out of Position and there's Poor Resource Allocation. Let's look briefly at the Opening Position. Sydney Thunder Openers - Cameron Bancroft (Orthodox) - Alex Hales (High Intent) - Jason Sangha (Orthodox>) - For Sangha to have success in T20 Cricket he almost has to Open the Batting. - Blake Nikitaras It is likely that David Warner is going to be a part of this group next year. What does that mean? It means If they bring back Alex Hales which they should, Cameron Bancroft is going to have to bat out of position at No. 3. It also means that the Backup Top Order Position (Opener and No. 3) is being filled by Two Roster Spots. That's Poor Resource Allocation. It's important to remember that this problem isn't unique to Sydney Thunder. It's a Cricket Problem and it's Widespread. If you care to look, you can see it almost every single day.
