Fern Mandelbaum, Stanford Lecturer in Management and Managing Director of a HUGs (historically under-estimated group) focused VC, gave the Stanford Executive Program the tremendous opportunity yesterday to better understand the entrepreneurial mindset through conversations with amazing, successful women entrepreneurs looking to change the world.
In the face of adversity, these women had the following advice we should all consider: use this low creatively! In other words, turn lemons into lemonade.
“Even in your lowest low, there’s always room for creativity,” says Svanika Balasubramanian, co-founder of rePurpose Global, an organization that looks to reduce, repurpose and better manage plastic waste.
“Make your low a game - how can I use this creatively and turn into a positive? There’s always hope,” adds Elise Smith, co-founder of Praxis Labs, a company focused on increasing diversity, equity and inclusion through immersive experiences and trainings that create a physiological challenge to trainees - from front line workers to corporate staff.
“Business is binary. There are highs and lows..sometimes they happen at the same time! During the period of lows, if there is an ounce of creativity left, fan flames toward it. Ignite it,” advises Elizabeth Cutler, co-founder of SoulCycle and co-founder of Peoplehood, a virtual tool that brings people together to find much needed connection.
