This week's #KinderCharacterChallenge: Pick Up Litter
The last day of this week, Saturday, September 16, is National Clean Up Day, aimed at reducing litter and cleaning up green spaces. How many times a day do you see litter - on the sidewalk or along the highway? What can you do this week to help the Clean Up effort? Remember to be careful along roadways and protect your hands from germs and broken glass. For me, I have to go no further than my front yard. Corner lots seem to attract more trash. Is there a senior citizen in your family or neighborhood who has a similar problem that you could help with this week?
Is this the year that you convince your workplace or organization to Adopt-A-Highway for litter control? The program, run by the Ohio Department of Transportation, allows volunteer groups to adopt a two-mile section or an interchange along a state, federal, or interstate route, free of cost. Adopt-A-Highway volunteers pick up an average of 25,000 bags of litter each year, saving taxpayers $280,000.
