In just a few hours, we'll kick off a new Microsoft fiscal year—an opportune moment to look back on the past year and get inspired for what lies ahead. Having spent the last 9 years at Microsoft, I've navigated various roles, experiencing both success and challenges. However, FY24 was not like any other year. It began with fundamental changes that brought a sense of renewal—a new setup, a new team, and a fresh journey awaited. Yet, alongside these business changes, we faced unprecedented disruptions. As leaders, we often emphasize resilience during times of uncertainty. This year, I witnessed firsthand the profound power of resilience. Despite the challenges, we achieved significant milestones. At the Microsoft Technology Centers, our team played a pivotal role in shaping customer journeys and pioneering advancements in the era of AI. Through collaborative efforts, we drove impactful initiatives with our partners and we led our unified business with value and trust. While the journey wasn't without its challenges, it was incredibly rewarding and powerful. They say success is a reflection of the people who contribute to it. I feel privileged to have embarked on this journey alongside remarkable individuals and partners. Thank you to everyone who has been part of my journey in FY24. Steve Ballmer > Bill Gates Steve Ballmer, the former CEO of Microsoft and current owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, has surpassed Bill Gates to become the sixth richest person in the world. Ballmer's net worth, estimated at $157.2 billion, is primarily derived from his significant stake in Microsoft, which he acquired through a unique contract quirk during his tenure as CEO. Ballmer's rise in wealth is largely attributed to Microsoft's strong performance in the stock market, driven by the company's strategic investments in artificial intelligence, including a $10 billion investment in OpenAI. Microsoft's shares have surged, benefiting Ballmer, who holds about 90% of his net worth in Microsoft stock. In contrast, Gates, who has diversified his investments and engaged in significant philanthropic activities, including the Giving Pledge with Warren Buffett, has seen his Microsoft stake reduced over the years. Gates' net worth is estimated at $156.7 billion, with about half of his wealth held through Cascade Investment, created with the proceeds of Microsoft stock sales and dividends.
