Now that the rainy season has arrived in India, it is important to consider and take actions that will be beneficial not just for the next summer, but also for the future eras and decades of our planet.

Madre Brava's Jacques-Chai Chomthongdi was recently invited to talk about the critical role of diet shift in mitigating climate change on 360GoGreen on Thailand’s national TV network (Royal Thai Army Radio and Television, TV5 HD). This was a great opportunity, as the relationship between meat consumption and climate change hasn’t been well understood or widely discussed thus far in the country, even though Thailand is a major food exporter, including animal protein. It stands as the 4th largest chicken exporter globally and positions itself as the “Kitchen of the World.”   A recent report by Madre Brava revealed that as many as two-thirds of the population surveyed would like to reduce their meat consumption in the next two years. However, barriers to alternative protein consumption are significant. Consumers believe alternative proteins are currently too expensive, too processed, and face issues such as a lack of availability for purchase and a lack of variety in products. In essence, Thailand has a great chance to deliver a much-needed protein transition momentum in Southeast Asia through the growth of alternative proteins but greater effort is required from the food sector to make this happen. https://lnkd.in/eXscW9RU

Microplastic in the ocean is a significant problem that negatively impacts marine ecosystems, including sea creatures and human beings. These tiny plastic particles, which measure less than 5mm in size, are found in high densities in the ocean, and they pose a serious threat to marine life. Marine animals such as seabirds, fish, and turtles mistakenly eat microplastics, which can lead to digestive issues, intestinal blockages, and starvation. Studies have also shown that microplastics can transfer toxic chemicals, including endocrine disruptors, carcinogens, and neurotoxins, up the food chain, ultimately to humans who rely on seafood for their diet. Furthermore, microplastics decrease water quality, aesthetics, and recreational value, and they alter natural habitats, disrupting the healthy functioning of marine ecosystems. In summary, microplastic in the ocean is a global problem that needs urgent attention from all sectors of society to prevent further harm to marine ecosystems and mitigate risks to human health.

By the third day, you start realizing how insignificant you are as a human being vs the power of the mountain and nature. 𝗞𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗻𝗷𝗮𝗿𝗼 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗯 𝗲𝗽.𝟱 We climbed 6 hours to 4,200 meters, lunched with the clouds, and then walked down another 3 hours to 3,900 meters to acclimatize at Baranco camp. This was to help us adjust to the high altitude. After 3500 meters, the landscape morphs into rock and sparse vegetation; weather swinging from scorching sun to snow in just half an hour. Despite the constant mix of oxygen (20%) and nitrogen (80%) up to 10km high, the real challenge at the summit isn't oxygen scarcity but the thinning air pressure. At the peak, every breath carries less oxygen into your lungs, making it tough to breathe as if you're only getting half the air you would at sea level. Also, being up high makes you lose water faster, risking dehydration, so you must drink even if you don't feel thirsty. Weirdly, you burn more calories but feel less hungry, so you've got to make yourself eat enough to keep your energy up. Day three was challenging for everyone, but some had it rough -  nausea, headaches, weakness. You can only know how the high altitude will impact you once you are in high altitude. And it has nothing to do with being fit or not, young or old. That night's dinner was not fun - almost everyone didn't feel hungry and wanted to go to bed fast. #kilimanjaro #endurance #resiliance
