I commend all of those that have the courage to create or attempt to create video games. To put into perspective from last year’s data on NewZoo, 14,532 ( ~15,000) games were released in 2023 on Steam. Of these, 48 accounted for 90% of the playtime (0.33% of games). 1,400+ accounted for the remaining 10% meaning many games didn’t even get played or were played very little 😱 (9.63% of games). This truly reiterates the passion that is necessary in this industry, as well as the drive, in order to create games. Not everyone will create a successful game, let alone create a successful game on the first go-around. This is not to deter anyone from creating because we cannot have GREAT new games without creating. It’s just so much harder than many want to believe. Don’t give up on the first go-around and don’t expect that this will be your income maker out the gate.
