The Aquarium turns 40 in October. Over the past four decades, we’ve become so much more than an aquarium. We’re a leading source of ocean education and a respected voice in the global conservation community. To reflect the growth of our identity, we’re refreshing the look and feel of our brand – in all its dimensions. That includes everything from our logo and website, to signage and staff uniforms, and the way we talk about our work. In vibrant and positive ways, the changes honor our past and align with all the possibilities that lie ahead. Underlying the visual changes that you’ll see is a new unifying concept we call “Ooh and Awe.” It speaks to our mission – to inspire conservation of the ocean – and the way people experience the Aquarium: in person, on our website, and through our social channels. We partnered with the respected international design agency Pentagram to help us evolve our brand without losing what has worked well for us for the last 40 years. (Don’t worry! Our beloved kelp swirl mark isn’t going anywhere.) Throughout our anniversary year, we’ll roll the changes out slowly in keeping with our sustainability commitments. This brand evolution embodies all the wonder and delight that connects people to the Aquarium and the living ocean.
