TIL the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 fun Type 1 fun is fun while you're doing it, and Type 2 fun is fun to look back on after you're done. (Startups are usually type 2 with tiny moments of Type 1, and even more moments of absolute sheer terror, during the rollercoaster ride)
Have used this one for years to describe parenting and startups.
Bout to see job descriptions everywhere talk about how type 2 fun it is to work there
Those moments of Type 1 fun can be fleeting, but they’re what keep us going. It’s all about finding joy in the process while navigating the challenges.
Please remind me of this the next time I pitch something to you 😅
Type 2 fun is ultimately more rewarding because it creates a stronger bond between the people you are experiencing the fun with
Interesting take - one should avoid type 1 funs which would end up in type 2 regret!
Type 2 makes me think of the Mark Twight quote - “It doesn’t have to be fun, to be fun.”
Those tiny moments of Type 1 fun keep you going, even when the ride gets bumpy. Thanks for sharing this—it’s a good reminder to cherish both types.

3wI love the definition of Type 3 fun. Not fun when it's happening and not fun when you look back on it. Just not fun at all 😂
