So stoked to be included on Billboard’s Pride List this year! At the risk of making every LinkedIn post a creative writing exercise, I need to take the opportunity for some earnest reflection on this. I grew up in a small town in New England. While still living at home I was deeply closeted; No tragic bullying narrative here, things all worked out, but the experience of growing up with shame around your sexuality undoubtedly hinders the development of self esteem and teaches you to compartmentalize your personality. I found an outlet in old punk rock and experimental records I downloaded from Limewire. Music (and tech) connected me to something much bigger than my preppy town, my high school, my part time job as a bus boy at a Mexican restaurant. That job as a busboy paid for a big chunk of tuition at a small media art school in Boston (Emerson College), which culminated with a chance to move out to LA, where I landed an internship at Warner Bros. Records. I'm still in awe that the music business happened for me. High-school-me knew I wanted to be part of a music scene but I never imagined I'd actually make it my career, much less in a position focused on licensing the type of digital music service that inspired me to carve a path out. Theres a pretty common mission statement music execs make where they talk about connecting music "to fans." I'll borrow that, but I will be more specific: I hope my work licensing music to DSPs deliverers some awkward, self conscious queer kid an artist or song that shows them something much bigger than their circumstances is waiting for them. So grateful to be on this ride. Happy pride. xx
WCM's very own Andrew Ludwick is featured in this year's Billboard Pride List, highlighting the LGBTQ+ movers and shakers within the music industry. When asked about recent achievements, he shared, "I am optimistic about my management’s bullishness and aptitude on AI and grateful to have a seat at the table for strategy and policy meetings at the corporate level. My hope is that we treat everyone with a little more grace and dignity as the world changes.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/gvuwVEvs #WarnerChappellMusic #WCM
