This is a really curious case because the current "owner" (i.e., majority shareholder) of Chelsea FC, Todd Boehly, had nothing to do with the alleged offenses. "Why punish me?" he asks. Well, because a corporation is not the same as its shareholders. It is a nominal entity created to shield the shareholders from liability. Shareholders like this when the corporation suffers a financial loss because their own private wealth is insulated from claims against the corporation. They don't suddenly get to identify with the corporation when it suits them. The bigger question in the Everton, Chelsea, and Man City cases is whether a sporting penalty, applied years after the offences were committed, atones in any way for financial malfeasance. It probably doesn't. Leeds and other clubs relegated instead of Everton are going to sue them. Could Liverpool and Man United sue over the trophies Chelsea and Man City won? Then there is the meta-question of why football demands that its corporate members behave differently from every other industry. Why did England fail to win the Euros and what can we learn from this?   We all have our own strengths and weaknesses. Focusing on your strengths and improving your weaknesses is the only way grow to the next level.   From a football perspective, I think Gareth Southgate and his overly cautious approach and more defensive style of play, was what limited England to being runners up twice.   To win a tournament, especially a final, you have to dominate your opposition and impose your style of play on them. With only 34% possession it was hard for England to get a foothold in the game, and they were reliant on just “nicking it” in the final minutes of the game, which was the negative way they had played throughout the whole tournament. It felt like the Managers’ weakness of being cautious, reflected in the way England played.   Being seen in the public domain, has always been my own fear and weakness. It might be hard to believe, but I am actually a very introverted and private person! To the point, where a couple of years ago, I even had to be convinced by colleagues to put my profile photo on Linkedin, never mind posting on here!   However, I knew I had to get away from this self-imposed limitation and accept that if Baked Earth is to become a household name, which has always been my aspiration, then I have to take centre stage and be more public. The next stage in the journey is for me to post a recorded video of me talking, which actually terrifies me! Yes, talking on camera is actually one of my major phobias!   In life, business and football, we have to confront our fears. Overcome our weaknesses. Take on our inner demons.   Or else, live with the regret, of what could have been.   The choice is yours. And yours alone.

📢 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐁𝐢𝐥𝐥 ⚽ The historic Football Governance Bill was introduced in Parliament on Tuesday 19 March 2024, the beginning of the process before it is made law. The legislation is part of the UK Government's plans to establish an Independent Football Regulator (IFR) and will grant powers to an IFR to oversee the top 5 divisions of men's football in England. The calls for an IFR gathered momentum after the demise of Bury FC in 2019 and in response to the short-lived proposal in 2021 of a European Super League. The main objectives stated in section 6 of the Bill are to: (i) protect and promote the financial soundness of regulated clubs; (ii) protect and promote the systemic financial resilience of English football; and (iii) safeguard the heritage of English football. The announcement by Parliament on Tuesday was timely – it was just a day after the English Premier League announced an immediate 4-point penalty against Nottingham Forest Football Club for breaching profit and sustainability rules. This scenario has become all too familiar in recent years, particularly this season. It remains to be seen how an IFR would operate in practice, what the scope of its jurisdiction ultimately is and just how effective it would be.
