We recently had the honor of spending time with NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Petty at the North Wilkesboro Speedway for the NASCAR All-Star Race as an honored guest of Lowe's Companies, Inc. The King of NASCAR has long been a friend to the veteran community, and he spent nearly the entire race with Ret. Army MSG George Vera, a 4x Bronze Star, Silver Star, Purple Heart Hero, and myself. This honor could not be more well-deserved. I only recently had the opportunity to meet Toni during the recent AUSA exposition in Washington, D.C., but it was immediately clear to me how wonderful and dedicated she is. It's been an honor to share the Building Homes for Heroes, Inc. story with Authority Magazine. During the interview, I discussed our organization’s journey from the rubble at Ground Zero during the dark days of 9/11 to now accomplishing one home every 11 days, on average, for our nation’s heroes. I also was proud to share five essential elements for a nonprofit to achieve effectiveness and success. We are so grateful to SAIC, our longtime partner and one of the greatest American companies, for their wonderful donation of $100,000 towards our mission to build better and brighter lives for our nation’s heroes. We were honored to join with their amazing CEO, Toni Townes-Whitley, and Executive Vice President Vincent DiFronzo at the AFCEA International WEST event in San Diego for the check presentation with one of our heroes, US Navy Hospital Corpsman Isaac Francois. Isaac, who received his home from Building Homes for Heroes, Inc., JPMorgan Chase & Co., and SAIC on Sept. 11, 2020, joined the U.S. military after immigrating from Haiti in 2001. He is a true embodiment of the American Dream and one of the hundreds of heroes whose lives we’ve been able to change thanks to amazing corporate partners like SAIC. Our mission would not be possible without the generous network of passionate and patriotic supporters who also share our determination to help those who have served and sacrificed so much for all of us. Bobby Beckwith was a dear friend who I always looked forward to seeing at many of our local events, especially our annual NY golf outing alongside his lovely wife Barbara. He lit up every room he was in with his contagious smile and indomitable spirit. It’s no surprise that he became a worldwide symbol of hope and resilience following the dark times of 9/11. Like all the men and women who don the uniform to keep us safe, Bobby was every bit of New York’s Bravest. Building Homes for Heroes will continue to honor Bobby’s legacy at this year’s NY golf outing and with every hero we help ahead. Our deepest condolences, love and respect are with the entire Beckwith family as we all honor his life and mourn his loss together. Let’s all follow Bobby’s example by spreading love and kindness, just like he did for all of his 91-plus years. I know Bobby is still watching over us from above. Thank you for being such an amazing part of our lives, and may you rest in peace, my friend.

It was a joy to once again attend the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) at the Las Vegas Convention Center with our good friends from RealTruck, Inc. At this year’s 11th annual Building Homes for Heroes, Inc. Honoree Gala, we honored PulteGroup CEO Ryan Marshall at the illustrious NYSE. It was a wonderful evening surrounded by friends, supporters, and so many of our nation’s heroes. PulteGroup has been an amazing building partner, with 14 homes having been built between us in just four short years of partnership – with many more in store for 2024!
