I’m excited to share a project I recently completed as part of my course at Scaler , where I tackled a critical issue for Ola: driver attrition. Recruiting and retaining drivers is a significant challenge, and high churn rates can deeply impact the company's operations and morale. Given monthly data for 2019 and 2020, I was tasked with predicting whether a driver would leave the company. Here's how I approached this challenge: **Problem Statement**: High churn among drivers makes it easy for them to switch to competitors or stop working altogether. This not only affects operational efficiency but also raises costs, as acquiring new drivers is more expensive than retaining existing ones. **Techniques Used**: - **Ensemble Methods**: Implemented bagging and boosting techniques to enhance model performance. - **Feature Engineering**: Created new features to capture underlying patterns and relationships in the data. - **Outlier Handling**: Applied strategies to manage outliers and ensure robust model predictions. - **KNN Imputation**: Utilized KNN imputation to address missing values without losing valuable information. - **Imbalanced Dataset Management**: Employed techniques to handle the class imbalance effectively, ensuring the model performs well across different classes. This project not only strengthened my technical skills but also gave me a deeper understanding of real-world challenges in the ride-hailing industry. One of the greatest benefits of working at Uber when it was in hyper hyper growth was the variety of analytics projects I got to work on. In no particular order, I was lucky enough to be a part of: — Building a segmentation framework to win back riders post COVID — Quantifying the impact of global support tickets for UberPOOL — Measuring the incrementality of the customer referral program — Analyzing the best time to suggest drivers take their first trip — Competitive promotions trying to win the DC market — Identifying marketing channels to shut down — Helping to optimize > $1BN in Brand spend Without even mentioning the impact of these analyses, the sheer diversity of problems I got to explore is something I still look back fondly on. If you're an early career data analyst, try your hardest to join a rocketship. Your surface area will grow exponentially. And if you're looking to bring on analytics, look for people that have been on rocketships. Your company's surface area will grow exponentially.
