With communities in a business environment, everyone wins. It’s a win-win-win situation. 1. As community members, we will win, because we connect with people with the same pain, passion or ambition and share experiences, so we all grow to the next level; 2. The business will win, because it deepens relationships and helps businesses to stay relevant in this fast changing world; 3. And there is an extra win for the professional who leads the community. Because their network grows, their expert status grows and they’ll have personal success as a result. Communities are amazing for its members, ideal for sharing information and they help brands create trust and connect with their most valuable audience. Let's talk about community! I just went to my first in-person networking breakfast event where I got to talk to three women who have found success in their businesses. I learned so much about what it means to market yourself to potential clients and I even made a connection with one of these ladies that may prove beneficial to me. And to think a few hours ago I considered not going. My mind was filled with anxious thoughts, varying from "they might not like me" to "you're wasting your time." Even still, I decided I had more to lose by not going than going and deciding that the group wasn't for me. Truth be told, I was q u a k i n g in my boots before I got there, but doing it scared is much better than not doing it altogether. Or doing it alone, which brings me to the point of this post. I was always a DIY girl-- I felt uncomfortable asking for help for fear of taking advantage of my community. But business and freelance would be impossible without at least a little help. I mean, the whole point of this damn app is to connect with people for business purposes. As it turns out, regardless of how talented you may be, it's all about connection, and that's the purpose of having a community like Word Tonic. Even if we're not talking business, we're still there to support each other-- in creativity and in life overall. You can't do it alone, but more importantly, you shouldn't have to do it alone. In the words of High School Musical, we're all in this together.

Don’t you HATE IT when someone interesting connects with you on LinkedIn and says something wonderful about your business....said no one ever!! This is a little reminder to: ⭐ Connect with that person you admire. ⭐ Share words of appreciation with a thought-leader whose LinkedIn post you took a lot of value and insight from ⭐ Like, follow, comment, share a piece of content - where you can tell that person is genuinely investing in themselves and they have compelling points of view to share (even if they may only be new and have a few followers) ⭐ Take a chance - suggest a video chat, coffee (or salty margarita) catch up with someone who you would love to have in your universe..... I love to share on LinkedIn. I genuinely love the engagement on my posts because it reassures me that it brought some level of entertainment, insight, inspiration or value to people reading it. I'm also up levelling my appreciation of other peoples contributions. It takes time to write an article, develop a presentation, webinar or to simply share a point of view in an articulate way. And that deserves acknowledgement so the writer can build on their confidence and continue giving to this incredible community. I really do believe that when you receive some love from the universe - forward it on - It goes a long way!

You can't fast-track community-building. As much as the "5 simple steps to build your community"-posts want us to believe that. There is really no shortcut to building a community. Why? 🚨 Because relationships don't scale, and relationships are not built over night. But before you stop reading because my post is starting to sound like "playing the long game" doesn't pay off, let me tell you: 💡 Relationships don't scale, but culture does. And establishing a culture of learning and a culture of enabling relationships within your community almost feels like fast-tracking community building. 🔦 Connecting my connections with each other is one of my favourite things to do, because it opens up new possibilities for everyone!
